TGL sounds weird and could be a flop...
Could well be. Although I'm intrigued.

I simply see it as something golf related that is completely different to the norm. I may tune in to see what it is about, just like I'd tune in to see golf tips on youtube or Jimmy Bullard play against some celebrity or professional golfer. Happening in January, so it isn't taking over from any of the official golf, which I don't generally start to get back into until maybe the Pebble Beach pro-AM

Thankfully, it isn't trying to take itself seriously by copying the general format of professional golf, with a few trivial differences such as less rounds, shotgun starts, etc. It just seems to be a bit of fun, they are getting outside celebrities involved it seems to add a bit of glamour. It'll probably be a bigger thing in the US Market obviously, as the celebrity's involved will be known to their public more than us, and I think the teams they play in are based on locations around the US from what I read.

TGL won’t be a flop. It’ll be horrendous, but people are gonna watch it because of their allegiance to a tour and its players - you can see that from the comments in this thread.

If LIV had never come on the scene, and somebody had come up with the TGL concept, they would have been laughed all the way back to the locker room.

I’m just looking forward to seeing Rory getting super pumped to be repping Boston, and coming out with some tenuous Irish ancestry codswallop to get the crowd on-side. It’ll all be there, trust me.

So people will only watch it because of their allegiance to players? Well, that was proven to be completely untrue when some of those players joined LIV. And I have a pretty good hunch that nobody in here has an allegiance to the PGAT. It happens to be the tour where the worlds best golfers play, and so people watch it. But I don't think anyone out there supports the PGAT above all else. Personally, I now rarely watch the PGAT standard events. I'll just watch bits here and there, but I'll generally tune in to the Majors and WGCs.

Does the TGL have anything to do with the PGAT at all?

Before LIV came along, there have been examples of gimmicky things outside of the PGAT. For example, I seem to remember a match of Tiger versus Mickleson. It was all a bit of fun, and wasn't really laughed all the way back to the locker room.

As I did with LIV I'll give TGL a watch (assuming there's some free content) I think bits will be watchable and other bits forgettable (just as LIV) I've seen some horrific golf stuff on YT & it cant be as bad as that

Off topic
It does confuse me how ppl can be Pro one of these initiatives/innovations and Anti the other. My way of thinking is you'd be Pro both or Anti both (or as most of us are, just pretty much 'meh lets see' to both)

Why would it be confusing. Surely the only way you'd think that is if everyone was either always 100% for or against change, regardless of what the change is?

LIV and TGL are radically different things. Personally, I'm not Pro TGL as it could be naff. But it's existence has no effect on anything I do tend to watch. I'm not thinking the existence of TGL is going to weaken the fields on PGAT? And, for those that hate the idea of Middle Eastern investment, and players getting big financial rewards regardless of success of the organization, TGL isn't going to anger them? After all, if players make any money out of it, I'm guessing it won't come from a bottomless put of money? TGL will have to generate that revenue. To be honest, I've zero idea what players are getting out of it financially.

My issue with TGL is it’s yet another US centric golf product. Monday night in Florida is fast asleep o’clock for me, at best it’s when some parts of the world are on their way to or have already arrived at work.
It will appeal to some, my kid for example will probably think it’s cool. Just not convinced I’ll be able to get through all the contrived hype and commercialism that is absolutely guaranteed to be a massive part of the production.

If we thought Greg Norman getting down on one knee to give Gooch a ring was a bit cheesy, this will take it to a completely new level.

I'm all for something different

I enjoyed Liv at first but then got bored much as I do with the golf outside of majors

Full swing was last thing to really grip me

But I'll give this a go, tigers involved after all

Same with Tiger today - cant figure out what's going on with LIV but TGL "is very simple.."

The deeper we get into it, TGL just looks like a shallow attempt to de-rail the LIV project by Tiger, Rory and the PGA Tour...
I’m not pro or anti LIV,but Rory really has made himself look a right tit imo.
This TGL thing is going to be so bad and fake.
No doubt be loads of fake banter.
And apparently getting asked to be involved is bigger than being involved in the Ryder cup.
Rich golfers getting the opportunity to make more money 🤷‍♂️

At least they are trying something different and think it could really open up golf to a lot of new fans. The team element seem well conceived, and with world ranking points it is certainly going to be taken seriously by the players - the slots available to qualifiers will could be fascinating contests in themselves. Those fantasy courses look amazing and are going to be a really different test of the players skills than they encounter only rarely on real courses. And, finally gives us golf fans some real golf to watch at the beginning of the week rather than the blank up until Thursdays.

Fake? Unlike LiV. It’s not trying to be serious tournament golf.

It will probably be just as bad though. However, more people will watch it because or Rory and more so Tiger.
