We have a few Stablefords once the Whites come in..possibly end of the month but may go into November..then it'll be yellows until March.
We're not overly heavy on competitions anyway so it'll be business as usual with GP cards plus the odd comp if it fits in...

We go on to our “Black” Course in winter, fully rated and qualifiers will continue when conditions allow or unless a non-qualifying format comp is on.

Sundays will be 4BBB or Ind Comp as we have a Winter League that is run alongside the comps.

We will hold our usual competitions over the winter period. There's not a huge number, but they are all played on the full length course off the whites.

Our Saturday roll up holds an order of merit January-December with op 10 scores for each player counting. Currently 6 players within 8 shots so nice and tight and adds a nice edge on the weeks we don't have a monthly stableford

My club proposed having a 'winter league' last year, similar to what some others have described. It was meant to be like an eclectic score of your best holes submitted over the winter. We put a couple of cards in to start with, then forgot about it, and apparently so did everyone else because it was never mentioned again. :ROFLMAO:

We hold competitions over the winter, but since joining a couple of years ago they haven't been Qualifying (last qualifying competition has generally been end of October, ending with the last October Stableford series). However, there has been good reason for this. The club has done some extensive work on the course, such as work on some greens and install new bunkers. So, several holes have been on temp greens a long way away from the main green, or temp tees. So, there was too big a yardage difference compared to measured course to allow qualifiers. I expect the same will be true this year, as the club plan to do some extensive work on drainage.

That being said, the course also installed a new set of shorter blue tees last year, and had those measured. The plan to use these in winter whilst resting / doing work on the main tee boxes. I'm assuming this was done with the intention allowing rounds acceptable for handicap through the winter, if no other major works are being carried out at the time

We also have 4BBB winter league. Starts of in groups of about 6-7 teams. Top 2 qualify, then knockout until the final is won.

Was a nightmare last year, struggled to get games in because of the weather and course closures, there had to be a few extensions. Think we've got until February this year to complete the group stages, so club must be anticipating weather issues again

Have swapped over to our 'winter course' - which continues to be qualifying etc. Will be monthly club Stableford qualifying comps and qualifying Proshop comps if no club comp.

We play comps all year round.
Singles comps November - April are held as Stablefords. They are qualifying as long as there are no more than 2 temp greens.

We went to standard size holes on our temp greens many years ago.

play on a links type course, full course will be in play, grass tees, no temporary greens. Plenty of qualifying comps, turkey trots and a few Texas Scrambles. Wind can be brutal.

We are now on our winter course, and although it is rated, there will be no qualifying comps until April.

During the next few months there is the Top Dog 4BBB league, a Greensomes KO and 3 Turkey Trots. The Pro tried to put on a weekly Saturday Stableford a few years ago, but nobody was interested and it died quickly.

Most people I know treat winter golf as an alternative to walking the dog or shopping. I know our games are exclusively matchplay.

We run stablefords throughout the winter, and whilst last year they were all non qualifiers because of the awful conditions, generally they are used for handicap purposes. We also run winter league.

I am happy to play all winter unless the course is frozen solid or the rain coming down sideways.

I love a frozen golf course. Only because I find it amusing, and I don't take my scoring too seriously. Watching golf balls bounce sideways, or landing on the green and bouncing 50 yards beyond it. I like to see how well I can adapt to the conditions. I watch people play high approaches / pitches to greens, knowing it is very likely to bounce anywhere. I like to punch it in low, get it bouncing before the green, and just get it up there somewhere close to green.

Rain, however, different story. I'll play in it if the course is open, but I do hate it.

I actually agree. When the course is frozen you don't have any expectations going in, you know it will just be silly so you tend to have a good laugh. Accidentally hitting the front of the green when trying to pitch it short, and watch it bounce 50 yards over the back. Last January we had a round like this, I shot 93, but my mate who was 26 handicap at the time managed his best ever round at the club with an 89! Somehow he just mastered playing every single approach with a low-running 7 iron that stopped on the greens instead of bouncing through.
