For me team and golf really don’t mix. For a team to be supportable you need some sort of investment in it. It’s why the Ryder cup does work, us v them type mentality. I don’t see where you get that from in team golf, take LIV and their teams, nobody cares about them, they don’t look for how the Iron heads are performing, they want to know how Bryson is doing. Golf is about individuals it should stick with that as people won’t buy into the team thing.
It’s like F1, while the team integration is deeper there at least there is a reason to get behind a team, I like Ferrari or whatever, if golf had team Ping, team TM, team Calloway then I could see it possibly working, but having team “made up stupid name” just won’t catch on because there is no reason for it to do and people will still just look for how Rory or Tiger or Bland or whoever is doing

I agree but with F1 I really don't care about the team, I know it's there but I support dfrivers I like regardless of which team they are in otherwise I would only like drivers of my team really.

100% nobody really cares about the constrictors championship in F1 save for the teams themselves, people care about how Hamilton, or Versrappen or whoever is doing

Teams will never be able to be just created

Even the Hundred has had issues and that’s within an established team sport because they tried to create franchises in areas and ignored many cricket fans have loyalties to a county

With this TGL I suspect it seems a more relaxed fun environment. There will be some sort of team element but it will be down to the details

I think teams in F1 work to a slight extent, because they have the history there.

Maybe if when pro golf became a mainstream thing (sixties?) and they started a teams concept then with the inception of the PGA Tour, it could have worked? But now we're way too far gone, so no one will care a jot.

When I was a kid there was Bullseye and Pot Black, where professionals would turn up on tv for a bit of fun. Soccer Saturday has footballers doing top bin and other drills.
This looks like a similar branch of entertainment. It’s not trying to replace pro golf.

I think that's part of the issue though. Bullseye, Pot Black, and Big Break are long gone. And Soccer AM now too - the very last episode was a couple of weeks ago.

I just don't see how this will attract a big enough audience to keep going past a couple of years before it's forgotten about.

Agreed. It’s a tv show, it has a shelf life.

I think that this sort of 'side-entertainment' (that is very much something I have just made up) is now available so freely on social media, that it isn't the kind of thing people tune into on TV.

Shouldn’t they be more concerned about buying some footballers? :ROFLMAO:
Why 🤷‍♂️

They own more than football clubs

Does it seem strange to you that all these TGL teams are getting bought before it even starts where as other teams in other events still can’t get bought

This sounds like an absolute car crash. But, I’ll remain open minded about it and give it a chance.
It’ll shut up a few LIV critics antmyway - if you think a bit of background music on the course is an issue I suspect the levels of ‘cheese’ will be off the scale here….

What we saying, Tiger walks on stage to make his debut with an actual Tiger, Mike Tyson stylee… :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

It's not real golf
It's not trying to be real golf
It's not claiming it should be recognised as real golf....and claiming ranking points
It's a separate entertainment event.

Its what LIV should have done........

I’m glad LIV didn’t take this nonsensical route mate.
TGL will get support because of the people involved, not cos it’s credible.

I'm sure I remember that to play cricket for Lancashire, you had to be born in Lancashire. I've never been able to understand why people support commercial team, such as a football team owned by rich Americans and the players are bought in rather than coming from the local area.
