Surely it should be neither as spell checker is a real thing, not an implied or suggested thing.
Plus I thought that “” are called ‘speech marks’…so to be used when indicating or quoting someone speaking the words they enclose. Might be totally wrong of course…

And in the above sentence I use single quotes to identify the subject of the sentence and to indicate that the words are not to be read as simply part of the sentence. I suppose I could equally have italicised the two words and not bothered with the single quote marks.

But hey…the sun is out and the snow is melting up here in the north midlands.

Calling a company and entering/speaking loads of security questions before talking to an advisor, who then asks the same questions to check who you are. What is the point of the automated check which always takes a few goes to get through as you aren't speaking in a way it can understand.
I may have been a bit hasty with my original irritation, currently 50 minutes into the call and still no answer from a human being 🤬

They can be used when inferring or implying something or indicating no-standard, odd or highlighting language.

Inference or implication can also be shown with italics.

Or at least that’s what higher English literature taught me 30 years ago…

Thought I'd watch some sim racing to see if it was authentic. Michelin 240 @ Daytona, and starting in 3rd place is a guest team with a certain Max Verstappen driving the first leg. Good start, but guess who is going too fast up the inside of T1? Guess who forces the championship leader off the track?
Yep, it's authentic.
