Random Irritations

On one of our trips to the USA to see some of those amazing places, we were in Southern Utah for the evening at a town called Orderville.
Mrs V renamed it Ordureville.
We heard a lady who lived there say, "I've never been out of Utah state in my entire life."
We were 40 miles from the Arizona border and another 60 miles to the North Rim of The Grand Canyon where we were going the following day.

People travel from all over the world to see it and she can't be arsed to go up the road. What a waste.

Folks in the UK don’t tend to spend time travelling around here either. Most take holidays abroad for “the weather” and miss out on how spectacularly beautiful this place is. I have been to every single mainland county which I think is a rarity.

The Grand Canyon is a bit different to Blackpool Tower though, Ron?

I had been in every county in England by the age of 18.
And I had lived in Swansea for one year.

When my wife and I visited we came across a rock promontory (I just googled that - i.e. a stone diving board) which was narrow and an obvious photo opportunity if you had the nuts to walk out onto it and could avoid looking down.
People queued.
Many people went out by crawling, stood up quickly and crawled back.
My wife and I went together and the person next in line took the shot with our camera.
Afterward I recall thinking two of us together was irresponsible (with kids).
Then, later, thinking "Where the heck in the UK would that be allowed? "

I once met two farmers, brothers, who had never left Northumberland. More than that, neither had ever slept a night anywhere other than on their farm. From being born there, growing up, then taking it over. They were both in their 70's when I met them 😳.

They were proud of this, I didn't know how to respond. Sad really, it's a big world.

Why judge anyone? Live and let live.

Edit…
You said it was “sad”, they may well have been happier than you. Just a thought.

No idea on their happiness levels and of course, it's their life. They certainly had no desire to do anything other than what they did

I just think that the world is bigger and more interesting than one rural county and one farmhouse.
