Not as possibly problematic as ^^^ - but got message from Virgin Media today saying that (as as agreed), they'd be disconnecting our service soon. A mere 7 days after having done so . (Why does the phrase 'good riddance' have such a nice ring to it ...)A communication fron British Gas informing us that our Smart Meter must be replaced as it will stop functioning properly at the turn of the year.
It's free ( we actually get a 30 quid rebate for the inconvenience ) and will only take a couple of hours....
Bearing in mind that I gotmthe letter today I rang up and booked a date and they're coming on the 19th...........of January
Er........OK...so 3 weeks without a properly functioning smart meter.
This could get interesting......
The world is a large and varied place. There is vastly more stuff out there that each of us isn't aware of than stuff we are.'Drumeo' on YouTube does a series where they get drummers to play on other styles of music that they're maybe not familiar with, listen to a popular song with the drumtrack removed, and see what drums they come up with. It's a great series and very enjoyable, but I just can't believe some of the songs these guys have supposedly never heard before! One I watched last week they had a drum teacher from Juilliard who reckoned he'd never heard Nirvana's In Bloom before. Seems unlikely, but ok. Now I've just watched one with the drummer from Megadeth on - they play him Mr Brightside by the Killers and he claims he's never listened to that before. Come off it! I refuse to believe anyone on earth hasn't heard that song! They have to be having us on??
Mr Brightside is ridiculously overplayed though. You could flick through a couple of radio stations and hear it twice a day. It's on TV programs, it'll be playing in shops and pubs that have music on. It is without doubt one of the most-played songs of all time - for a long period it was impossible to avoid. I don't think anything from the 60s or 70s can possibly have the same level of over-exposure due to the internet age etc. And this guy is the drummer from Megadeth, so while it's obviously not the same genre, it's not a million miles away from it, like he's a jazz drummer or something. If someone told me they'd never heard Mr Brightside, I'd assume they just don't hear music at all because they're not into - I'd be shocked if they then told me they're not only into music but in a band. The world is a large and varied place. I didn't recognise the names of those songs, so I checked them on Spotify just to see if I had heard them without knowing their names. I hadn't.
But I'm from a generation or two before you. I bet I know a heap of iconic songs from the 60s and 70s that you've never heard of.
I do have to admit, however, that YouTube videos of "first time hearing Stairway to Heaven" does seem a little difficult to believe
Well, maybe I have heard it in passing, but I certainly didn't recognise it when played on Spotify.Mr Brightside is ridiculously overplayed though. But that might be because it sounded pretty much just like most other so-called "rock" songs released this century, so it wouldn't have registered even if I had heard it.

Unless you are on a smart tariff a non functional smart meter won't be an issue. It will just be a dumb meter and they will take the readings when the meter is changed and you won't notice
Certainly is in our house. Younger Colch jnr is learning to play the guitar and that's one of his favourite songs to play. I must hear it at least ten to fifteen times a day. I've been away working for 10 days so far and any time a tune pops into my head it's that one.Mr Brightside is ridiculously overplayed though.
Really liked the one where Domino Santantonio played Slipknot for the first time.'Drumeo' on YouTube does a series where they get drummers to play on other styles of music that they're maybe not familiar with, listen to a popular song with the drumtrack removed, and see what drums they come up with. (For the record, I very much liked what he came up with, probably better than the actual song.)
