Yes, am 'in' (rather than 'from') a town. And I accept its a generalisation (although general enough to be valid)There is a middle-aged woman who dresses up in Lycra and running shoes to jog around our one and two mile village 'circuits' at a slower pace than a 74 year old man can walk.
I am sometimes tempted to invite her to join me in my WALK but that may be seen as a bit pervy.
BTW from your description of a British pedestrian I am the exact opposite of your generalisation.

Lack of fans and atmosphere at Hampden Park tonight. Think a smaller venue may have been more appropriate...which is a shame.

Record crowd of 20.000 I believe.
A few years ago I watched a womans game with 17.000 at Hamden and there was quite a good atmosphere, mind you there was about 8,000 screaming kids
It does the game no favour when the fans are rattling. Far better to put the match in a size appropriate ground and have a better atmosphere.

True…20,000 would have filled Tynecastle or Easter Rd to overflowing. Though the truth is that maybe the players - the English especially - would prefer to play Scotland at Hampden - walking in the footsteps of their very illustrious male predecessors.

Throat is agony, feels like tonsillitis. Could be a Christmas drinks without any drink tomorrow then.Woke up feeling absolutely horrendous today. Just what I need with a gig tomorrow night, work Christmas drinks Thursday and golf with the old man on Friday.

Not if the place is like a morgue. I think you are also over estimating the lure of Hampden to anyone south of the border. The Edinburgh options, with the place jumping, would have been a far better option.
Honey and lemon drinks by the gallon. You just have to wait out a bad throat. This will help to ease it, along with lots of paracetamol.
