Random Irritations

The Channel 4 streaming app. It is a heap of excrement. Every week I end up doing tech support so the wife can watch GBBO and every week we get into an argument because the app clearly DOESN'T JEFFING WORK.

And no, we can't watch it "live" on broadcast TV because it's bedtime for the daughter.

AAAAAAARGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH! I don't even like cake!

Not heard of hard disk recorders, then?

Secondary advantage: you can skip the ads.
Tertiary advantage: have the same (generally superior) user interface for all channels instead of tussling with the different UIs on iPlayer, ITVhub, All4, etc.

Ch 4 +1 is on Freeview as well as Sky, might be an option for you?

Worst night we've ever had with the little one. She just kept crying and wouldn't sleep. Took three hours to get her down, then she was only sleeping for an hour or two then crying again. Took her to the doctor's this morning and he said it was just the cold she has making it hard to breathe when she's lying down - but she's constantly had colds for the last six months and it's never been this bad - sounds like a cop out. Maybe teething as well but I don't know. I've had to ring in sick since sod going to the office on three hours kip (and wanted to help my wife with the baby today anyway). We've got her some sleep now by driving the car round a bit. Just still a worry that something else might be wrong. 🫤
Same again tonight, maybe even worse. Definitely don't think the doctor was correct. It's almost like she's screaming in her sleep. We've looked online and read about separation anxiety - she's too young for night terrors it seems. Unfortunately while there's plenty of articles, none tell you what you're actually supposed to do about it. Like the wisdom is just 'tough luck, deal with it until it doesn't happen anymore'. I've heard her scream more in two nights than in the entire preceding 9 months. For over an hour at a time. ☹️ The longer she doesn't sleep the worse it makes it. As soon as she looks like dozing off the screaming starts again.

Just remember that you don’t remember anything about being that age and neither will she. Obviously exhaust any chance of there being a physical cause for her behaviour but if it is in her dreams, she won’t remember it.

Go with your gut and get back to the doctor. Has she got colic perhaps?

Drove my missus to have her Flu and Covid jab last night. I sat in the waiting area while she went in for the jabs and a bloke sat next to me who absolutely stank of cannabis. I had to get up and go outside as it was making me feeling sick.

Someone smelling of tobacco used to make me feel the same, if they came too close to me - as in 5 yards.

Yeah we've been giving her that. I'm not sure if it's pain causing it or something else. So difficult to know.
I've just asked my daughter who works in the Children's hospital, explained what you've posted. She's worked with children all her working life, now in her 40's. Soon as she gives me her thoughts I'll let you know.

Whenever a kid is sick is the worse time as a parent. All I can say as I'm not a medical expert is try not to worry and your doing everything right in your actions thus far.

Hopefully in a week she will be back to normal and it will be a distant memory.

Direct Line. I know insurance has been a hot topic on here and my home and contents renewal came in last night, 70% increase. Went on comparison sites, same level of cover, decent firm, about 30% less than I paid last year.

So, I called direct line and asked what the deal was. First was told that they are not on comparison sites and the first year figures are there to attract you and the real premiums are charged in year 2. I did comment on that not being legal with there being no better deals for new customers and, anyway, if I get the best deal as a new customer, I just change every 12 months. She was pretty stern at this and said that this does not build up any loyalty. I advised that loyalty goes both ways and lumping 70% on an already high premium did not show much loyalty from there end. So, in a bit of strop she then agrees to look what my loyalty can get me by way of a better premium, only a 50% hike on last year. No thank you.

The whole conversation was just weird as if I should be grateful that they have accepted me as a customer.
