Direct Line. I know insurance has been a hot topic on here and my home and contents renewal came in last night, 70% increase. Went on comparison sites, same level of cover, decent firm, about 30% less than I paid last year.

So, I called direct line and asked what the deal was. First was told that they are not on comparison sites and the first year figures are there to attract you and the real premiums are charged in year 2. I did comment on that not being legal with there being no better deals for new customers and, anyway, if I get the best deal as a new customer, I just change every 12 months. She was pretty stern at this and said that this does not build up any loyalty. I advised that loyalty goes both ways and lumping 70% on an already high premium did not show much loyalty from there end. So, in a bit of strop she then agrees to look what my loyalty can get me by way of a better premium, only a 50% hike on last year. No thank you.

The whole conversation was just weird as if I should be grateful that they have accepted me as a customer.
'Customer is always right' isn't prevalent anymore in this era of rampant profiteering.

Whenever a kid is sick is the worse time as a parent. All I can say as I'm not a medical expert is try not to worry and your doing everything right in your actions thus far.

Hopefully in a week she will be back to normal and it will be a distant memory.
We can't last a whole week! 🤯

Similar to what I had years ago with admiral at the time

My renew I could get £200 cheaper elsewhere

They said well we can offer £100 cheaper than renewal how's that sound? I said well it sounds £100 more than I'm going to pay when I leave you?

Mental they think loyality is a thing from customers when they abuse the trust

To be fair if they had simply kept the premium the same I would probably have said, sod it, and stayed but the fact that I they woman felt it was a massive gesture and I should be grateful for a 30% hike in premium when I have advised that even last year was significantly more than others were charging was just a step too far.

When your greeted with attuides like that it just is like a red flag to a bull.

They grind my gears with their "not on comparison websites" first couple years I was with them they were a good price so I stayed with them then last year not only did my premium go up but they stuck the excess up from £0 to £150 think it was , so it's not even the same policy they offered ..

They did explain when I called they had done this to all policies but it just felt a Micky take. I managed to get cheaper than their price with a lower excess elsewhere

Exactly plus I used GO Compare and they cover the first £250 of any excess payment.

Next door have had no hot water for a week..something to do with anlack,of pressure.
They've got the contractors in today and they've dug holes, there's generators going, pumps pumping and it's a constant loud rumble...
Glad they're getting it fixed but Jeez, I'll be happy when it stops....

I've just asked my daughter who works in the Children's hospital, explained what you've posted. She's worked with children all her working life, now in her 40's. Soon as she gives me her thoughts I'll let you know.
I've just heard back from her. Quite a long reply so I'll get back during my lunch hour.
I'm painting at the mo so can't let paint dry too much! 😁

Yeah I saw them very impressed with that little bit , and that's another bit that gets me they make out like it's easy with that compare the meerkat and alike but you still need accounts with them

When you're on a peaceful range session with zen like tempo, and someone comes into the bay next to you and is firing balls all over the place like they are late for work

People who don't listen when something is being explained, and then talk about something not even related, and carry on when you point out they are on a different subject. I'm convinced the person I'm talking about doesn't understand the subject, but rather than keep quiet has to talk over everyone as if they are the expert. I've had to insist we record the meetings as they also have a difficult relationship with the truth.

Here's Traceys reply:
Is she like it during the day?
is she teething?
Constipated?
Hungry?
Nappy or nappy rash?
Does she move around normally during the day?
Do her ears look ok,if infection in the ears you may see mucus coming out,or does she tug or rub on her ear.
Is she windy or gasy?

She said that if she thinks of anymore she would let me know.
Also it would be good to hear what happens next though.

She's a bit moody in the daytime at the minute, probably because of her cold, but nowhere near the screaming of night time. Teething, possibly, but she doesn't normally scream to this degree - and she's not biting her hands like she normally does. Teething toy given was thrown away quite quickly. Not constipated, not sure if hungry because she isn't quite finishing her milk and meals sometimes, again because she feels ill probably. We give her time to crawl during the day but she mostly just wants to stand up (while leaning on something). No problem with the ears I don't think!

It was just so unusual, screaming her head off like we've rarely ever heard before, even though she appeared to be half asleep. When I said try putting the light on and wake her up properly, she stopped for a short while before slowly starting up again. Might have just been the shock of the light coming on.

Hopefully you all get a more restful night tonight.
If it does persist then I'd suggest taking her to the A&E at a Children Hospital.
Not worth taking chances and to get some peace of mind.

Thanks for taking the time to ask for me.

We took her to the local hospital at 9pm as she was wheezing, and we worry because she has the unfortunate habit of sleeping on her front. She also vomited profusely twice at meal times. They checked her out and nothing too bad but they gave antibiotics. Home just after 11 and put her to bed - she slept through to 7am this time! Phew.

My wife has woken up in agony with a sore throat, so we're now thinking it was probably just that causing Summer a lot of pain for the last few days. Now she has an almighty cough that hopefully the antibiotics will shift.

Fingers crossed the little one is on the mend mate
