Random Irritations

Went to the gym yesterday.

Normally I do 25 mins on the treadmill, 25 mins on the exercise bike, then do some strength work, then go for a sauna. Had done this Monday and Tuesday and felt great.

Got on the treadmill. Within 5 minutes, my right knee starts hurting. This is a bit odd as I've had a bit of bother with my left knee recently, but the right has been fine. Keep going, but stop after 10 minutes as I can really feel it. Go on the exercise bike, thinking that should be ok. Again, after 5 minutes, the right knee is aching. I do a few more minutes, but it feels pretty sore so I stop.

Don't bother with the strength work, go straight to the sauna which is always quiet. It is rammed and I can't get in. Cursing, I go for a shower instead. It is freezing. I run it for ages, it doesn't get any better. Quickest wash in the world, get dressed and go home absolutely fuming!

Predictably, the knee is like a balloon this morning.

Saw a job advertised yesterday for a three week offshore trip. Emailed the agency to ask for more info. Location and day rate looked ok so I asked them to put me forward for it. Have had a response from the client to say that they think that I am "too high level and experienced" for the role. Essentially they have decided to get someone with less knowledge and experience to do the job and will pay them the same as they could have paid me. 🤷‍♂️

Mrs D having covid

It’s certainly doing the rounds still.

It also seems there are some really nasty colds out there as well. I’m in the middle of an absolute stinker at the minute, probably the first I’ve had since before Covid. I think all the sanitising, social distancing and mask wearing kept them well at bay.

So rough was I the other day I did a Covid test as I had a hospital appointment and needed to be sure, and I was surprised it came back negative.

Covid is on the increase at the moment. Fully expecting hospitals in bigger urban centres to start to struggle soon.

On the way back from hospital last night we wondered if that's what our little one has - but was surprised they didn't test for it or anything.
My grand daughter had the latest almost untestable variant about 3 months ago, and then passed it to the rest of us, all same symptoms some tested positive, some negative.
sounds to me like she had/got it

I got her up this morning and she seemed a little more like her old self. The cough doesn't seem to bother her as much as the sore throat!
That's good to hear, it's amazing how resilient children can be and how quickly they can bounce back.
I sent your reply to my daughter and she said that it was the right decision to take her to hospital, especially with the wheezing.
Now you've got to look after the wife, busy time for you! 😂

I'm trying to claim back from BA for the items I had to buy when they failed to deliver my bag on my recent trip. Tracking the bag was a non starter as their site is getting 'upgrades', and the claim form section seems to be suffering the same issues. Somehow I suspect booking is not a problem

Foglights......
Either...
A. Devise a system that can sense when they're needed and automatically put them on and turn them off..
B. Educate people that, 99% of the time, they're not needed
C. Do away with the damn things......

Visibility was down to, oh, about 900 yards this morning and I'm getting dazzled by morons with fog lights on.....

My daughter now has her own car and was asking me about the use of fog lights the other week, not surprisingly on a foggy morning. My advice was that rear fog lights are largely redundant as long as you have your headlights on. Rear lights are now so good, so clear, that extra bright lights are no longer necessary. Add in the bright brake lights, no issue. Maybe 20yrs ago they were, I don't think so now. Perhaps they should be removed from cars, leave it to the lights that are already there?

After praising Barbour in a recent post for using a simple free process for returns, a 2nd return via InPost lockers has gone missing. No updates since it was collected by the courier on 7 Nov and InPost are unable to track it down. Personally, I suspect the courier is now keeping warm in a new £179 jacket. InPost are very quick to respond to emails but just come back with the same waffle on how they are investigating etc, no mention of paying me any compensation
