Random Irritations

I mentioned it somewhere else, but my company is stupid with cover for my role, so they'll probably try and blame me for not arranging it. Even though I have asked who I believe to be the appropriate people. Basically the people who are meant to be sorting cover are not based on my project, so my project bosses will be the ones blaming me I expect.

This is the thing, there is only one of me on the project, so if there's no one doing it it grinds to a halt. I'm surprised they're not showing more urgency really. 😄 But I realise you're trying to ease my anxiety about this, so thanks.
When you are off, make sure you are off - no phone calls from work, no checking emails, etc. You need to recharge and reset and burning out is not going to help you, your family or ultimately your company so they should respect your time off.

Are you more worried nobody will notice your gone and realise you been skiving for years 😉
Oh I've no doubt they won't notice I'm gone in a physical sense, but they'll notice when no drawings or documents have been reviewed or issued to any contractors for five days.

Pet insurance is legal theft IMO.

Renewal came in today, increase from £922 up to £2,933!! Unfortunately Frank is diabetic and whilst we've not had any large claims this year they know we cannot move elsewhere as no insurance will cover any pre-existing conditions. It's a complete racket. Anyway, going to have to go down the route of being uninsured and putting away a chunk of money each month then hope that nothing big happens for a couple of years.

This is where I would clear my conscience by simply letting my direct manager know that i am off, I have tried to arrange cover with not much success and that I will be going away in 48 hours if they would like to step in now and ensure that they do not come in on Friday with nobody to do the work.

Having to chase 3 hours missing overtime from September! Some reason the work system thinks I was nights when I was days so is blocking my overtime being paid that day

Just hate having to chase people.

Hopefully arrive before Christmas

The snipes and backhanded digs on these pages is getting more tiresome than watching Mr Hatton moan about missing another 30 foot putt....
Again - if there is no victim, there is no story (or post)!
Obviously, Mr. Hatton considers himself entitled but a victim of many things on the golf course! He would be awful to play with.

A good take on this in this week's Chipping Forecast podcast.

People in my life who insist on doing everything on their laptops in browsers rather than using File Explorer and full Office and Adobe apps.
And they never do any routine maintenance on said laptops.
And they always ask me for help when 💩 doesn't work properly.
And I'm not an IT guy - I've just spent the last 30 years making half an effort to understand how computer 💩 works because they aren't going away any time soon.
This happens at work and at home pretty much daily and it's irritating.

We've had sky q for a while. Alls good, it links through the WiFi. In January we changed broadband from sky to virgin, high speed fibre. Since then the box often drops out and I have to reset it, manually inputting an annoying password. It's been behaving recently but in the last week I've had to reset every time I turn the TV on

If you look at sky forums it's an ongoing problem with no real answer. Cynics suggest it's sky throwing a hissy fit because you aren't using their broadband. Whatever it is, it's an irritation 😡

We had BT broadband for ages

I switched to my own router pretty quickly

Anyways we also had BT TV

I couldn't get a picture for BT sport via the box because I was using my own equipment, luckily the app worked so was fine but it takes the Mick

Why should you have to use their shoddy equipment?

Sky Q itself still a form of daily irritation. It's got so much that doesn't work as successfully as the old Sky box. Poor show really.

When mobile phones first came out our boss was encouraging us to buy one (we worked 'on the road') me 'thoughts' fat chance. He even hated me having an answering machine (not a common thing back then) it would be switched on when I came home from the evenings work and would not be switched off until after 9 in the morning.
