Do love me a bit of Google sheets

The society I play in does top 5 scores over a 10 event season for the order of merit but has it's own made up handicap system (not a fan of but have to go with the flow) for record it's 32 points stay as is. Every shot over is 0.25 off every shot under is 0.25 back (max 2 back) and cut 1 for winning

Anyways designed a sheet to auto track the lot and spit out order of merit tracking the best 5 ordering them and auto doing the handicaps (the guy doing it just wrote it down, very 1930s)

Had to fix an error of it counting top 6 scores if lowest of 5 was repeated over the season

But from next year can just let it do it's work

Much easier for the guy running it

Edit just written another formula to work off the main inputs so when we go away for the away trip every year it can track the 2 day winner for the memorial trophy 🏆

Your not wrong. I'm very much not a fan of the system. Have voiced it aswell , said we should just use golf England handicaps for those who have them and just use this system for the people who don't. That was voted down , however I did re re raise the point in person last week and some of the nay sayers then got what I meant. They thought they would have to get golf England when they play twice a year.. I just explained people like myself would use our golf England handicaps but they could keep there's.

Mainly started because the year winner started the year on 26 but on golf England was 15.. he's finished the year on 18 in the society but has run away with it because his handicap is so incorrect. (At the away day last year he had 2 stinkers and went up 4 shots)

Least next year he won't be able to bandit unless he works hard all winter and gets single figures

My wife and her mates had an away day on the 2010 course today.

It absolutely poured down all last night and the course was very very wet. It's tough enough in perfect conditions, but today the mist didn't really list in the Usk Valley, and the fairways were a squelch-fest.

It's in this thread because she's laughing about how unplayable it was.

I'm wondering why it was open🤣

Bit like H4H this year. You just have to laugh at what it is and keep going

My course has moved to winter tees now. In the past that meant 2 tees moved and the course was still pretty long, about 6,250yds still. In winter, with minimal run, and less distance through the air, it was a bit too far. New management now, proprietary club, and they have moved a good number of tees forward. Sooooooo much better. A far better winter course, a better mix of distances. The course in summer would benefit from keeping some of the holes the same length but sadly that won't happen. Anyway, the good news is that the course is going to be much more enjoyable for the next 6 months than I thought, happy days 😊
So are you playing a different rated course for WHS purposes from forwards tees?

I believe so. It's genuinely different so the standard rating would not be relevant. All bunkers were gur last weekend so we couldn't tell, h/c weren't impacted. I know in past years handicaps were simply suspended from October to April but I'm told we should have qualifiers through winter now. Having qualifiers on the previous winter course would have been a nonsense, you may as well have added 4 shots to everyone's handicap meaning come April everything would be a bit screwy, particularly if playing an open somewhere in May or June. Now, it will be much more realistic and there should be no reason to avoid playing comps.

I'll find out.

We have a winter course that has been rated so can still have qualifying competitions, mainly roll up stablefords on a Saturday or Sunday morning. About half the tees are slightly forward and the 9th is well forward and becomes a par 4 instead of a par 5. This will be the 3rd year we have done it and seems to work well.

Good to see progressive thinking. Our yellows aren't overly long and so it is a decent test in the winter but nothing worse than playing off long markers when conditions are crap and it is freezing cold

2nd leg of a team handicap inter club final today. Team of 8 playing singles matchplay. We lost away last week 5.5 - 2.5. Home leg this week and we won 7.5 - 0.5 to overturn the deficit and win with an aggregate of 10 - 6. 😁

Started the day with an average round of golf. However once I putter out on 18 I looked at my phone and my pro had sent a picture of a box with my name on it

IMG-20241021-WA0004.jpgIMG-20241021-WA0005.jpg

Hello new toys .. went down range hit okay but then went to our little par 3 9 hole and hit a PB 2 over par which I was delighted with

Come home. Fished out a titliest box from when my driver arrived and packaged up my old titliest irons (after a good clean) so my colleague can buy them off me tomorrow IMG-20241021-WA0003.jpg

Thought would be a nice little touch to give him the brand new club feel for the price

Played ten holes late afternoon…first time on the course since Sept 14th…and given the amount of rain we’ve had it was great that we have 18 holes open and nice to play…as we have had throughout this pretty awful summer and winter - and that the work we’ve done to improve drainage and as flood mitigation seems to be working. There is still flooding across one hole - but nothing we can do about it as it’s about ‘outflow’ from the course and with the council. In any case the flooded area only comes into play if you are careless, thoughtless, or hit an awful shot…and then you get free relief from it.

…and the Sun made an appearance…and without a north wind.

Discovered yesterday a range on my way home is open until 10 so managed to get 60 balls in on my way home

Range was heaving! Good for golf. Just managed to get on the range. I mean they have 25 bays and I got the last one... 3 to a bay on average people playing top tracer.

To be fair they have always been popular as it's the best range (apart from grass) that I've ever been to. The "targets" are fake grass greens. Proper sizes with shape to them so it looks like your playing into a green. Big target for 250 yards to aim for for drivers .. auto loading balls with adjustable tee height. So since they put in top tracer it's even more popular.. proper bar and food aswell so people make a thing of it

Sounds like my local range. Since they put Trackman in it is heaving and trying to get a bay around 5.30-5.45 is a struggle coming straight from work. They also got in a new batch of balls so you are hitting decent range balls and they have new mats as well. Packed and usually groups playing games or courses and they offer a waitress service for drinks and food

The range at my course became so much more popular after trackman arrived. It's not in the same league as golf kingdom . It's just got toptracer that's it really

However people love it. I prefer when it's dry going down the par 3 next to it as I get it free and it's less busy
