I never understand this "never apologise" rubbish.

If my foursomes partner makes a complete hash of a shot then they'd damned well better apologise for it, maybe give me a sleeve of balls to make up for it.
When we played a foursomes match in an interclub matchplay comp my partner and I did nothing other than to berate each other at every opportunity when a poor shot was hit...sometimes even when a good shot was played.

Our opponents, much younger than us and much better golfers than us we're later overheard in the bar, asking our team Captain if "those two REALLY didn't like each other".

It wasn't deliberate...it was just a bit of banter which we carried on to the extreme.

And a signed glove perhaps?

Me and my mate are a bit like that. We bring the best out of each other when we're playing against each other for bragging rights, so when we play as a pair it feels weird to be overly positive. Better if the threat of being abused in front of our opponents looms large in the air. 😁 And we definitely don't apologise.

Loved catching up on this thread, sorry I got in late and works been mental this morning...

So unfortunately we lost on the 16th. We were down the whole game pretty much and its a combination of the other pair having a stormer (-1 gross thru 7) and him not really being on his game and me making two mistakes off the tee.

We chased as hard as we could but they birdied and parred the first 2 holes and we never got close really. He hits it an absolute mile and his iron play is amazing but he never really got anything close enough for a birdie chance. The weather was terrible until we were walking in which was laughable. I can't put it all down to luck because we definitely missed our chances but what summed up the round is - Them thinning a 3wood about 2 ft off the ground straight down the middle, me blocking a 5i off the tee into trees, so the only option my partner had was to tap out and hope for a par. I went on to knock it to 2 ft and they hit the front of the green about 35 ft out. Feeling like we'd probably done enough for a half he rocketed it in and won the hole with a birdie... we all just laughed because thats how the day had gone.

Great company, few beers and me and him are going to have a knock on a Sunday afternoon in the next couple of weeks. Will be good to see him play his own ball and what sort of positions he gets himself into.
