Do you believe you can get to scratch?

The same could be said about the old system. And in both cases, there would have to be several people failing to follow the rules on multiple occasions for it to happen.
In the old all three initial cards were used in the calculation I believe. Now it’s the best score out of three - 2 or sth.

Hmm, not sure. I got my first handicap in 2017 or 2018, I handed in three cards and I'm fairly certain the resultant handicap was in line with the best card I handed in.

I was listening the Chipping Forecast and they were discussing how a returning golfer got a very low handicap after submitting 3 cards, where two were high scores and 1 was low.
Could the same not be said for someone wanting a higher h/cap?
I know of one person who in the process of moving clubs, put in 3 cards and was given an 8 h/cap.
He had been off 2 at his old club.

So it seems that under a new system, the easiest way to scratch is to quit your membership, get the hcp lapsed and then get three cards of which one should be low enough to give you a scratch index. 🙃

Disclaimer: I do not endorse any hcp manipulation, this is just pointing out the “quickest” way to scratch 😂
I listened to that episode and it irritated me how unfathomable they found the new handicap calculation, when it’s very clearly explained in a table on various websites. There is a clear approach for a golfer with fewer than 20 scores.

I agree it they clearly hadn’t a clue. Having said that it’s probably representative of the golfing population as a whole - no one reads the tables, guides etc 😂

Obviously a mistake made by the new club, and it should be corrected immediately.

I'm never getting there if I play like I did today. Or yesterday, for that matter. Today has honestly made me want to quit entirely. 😢
