When can you play in Snr Comps?

I realise that this isn't the question (sorry) but is the age for 'senior' golf set at county level or does each club decide? In a poll of a handful of clubs in Lincolnshire, the senior section is open to anyone 55 and open; but my club in South Yorkshire has a senior section that starts at 50. I've also seen senior opens in Yorkshire with a 50 cut-off - hence my theory that it's a county thing. It could just be coincidence though.
Ours is set by the club but it is the same as the county, which has been 55 for as long as i can remember...its only been relevant to me since 4 years ago but this year will be my first proper year of entering Seniors comps.

Technically we only have 1 Senior's comp....the Senior's Championship that is open to members aged 55 or more.
We have a section, called The Elders " who run their own comps as a kind of society within the club.
They play Monday, Wednesday, Friday and have comps on various days..
You have to be 57 to get into The Elders......not sure why it's 57 and not 55 but there you go....
Maybe they are keeping with the times and just following when you can start drawing your private pension?

We changed from 60 to 55 at the start of last year. Comps are usually Tuesday or Thursday mornings. Matches are always weekday mornings with a late lunch afterwards.
We have an over-60 open AmAm and an over-70 open AmAm.

The change to 55 has made no significant change in participation.
I played in a seniors match last summer and I'm pretty sure that at 63 years and 10 months I was the youngest of the 24 players taking part.
But maybe some of them had tough paper rounds and are not as old as they look.

In our interclub seniors matches there is just one club that has the age set as 60 but it is not enforced for teams from other clubs playing there.
