Why are people A-Holes when playing MATCHPLAY?

We are talking about an annual get together of 4 friends....not a formally organised club competition.

Oh, well, obviously in that case, play whatever rules or non rules you like.
If you all agreed on them at the start, there won’t be a problem .

Using me as "a verbal punch bag" and "putting my wellbeing at risk" is a stretch. He lost his rag in front of others and embarrassed himself. I know the circumstances, they don't so I made allowances. My original point is that when people behave really badly toward others there are often underlying issues.
There's another player in our group who is regarded as obnoxious by many. His wife is an invalid, he's the main carer and golf is his esape. He's tolerated to a point.
