Hi All,

Just come off the phone with Chislehurst Golf Club (my local where my brother is a member) to be told that there's a 10 year waiting list!
I've been playing for a couple years now but never had a membership and would love to get one after missing out on it last summer. I'm 21 and a student but would love to go to a club where the course isn't constantly mashed up like it is where I play as a guest with my friends now at the local public course.

If anyone has any recommendations, I'm right on the border of Kent and Bromley but ideally don't want to venture too far! Sundridge Park is a good one but pretty sure my HCP isn't low enough to qualify there (because I don't get to play enough golf as I am not a member anywhere...)

All help is greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum, I’m not a million miles from you and recent weighed up where to join in the Croydon area, I can search for the original thread if it helps as there was great responses.

Courses discussed were addington palace, Croham hurst, Shirley park, purley downs, Farleigh court (where I was a member) and a couple of others

Sundridge Park won't be cheap, but I don't believe they have a restriction on handicap.
Royal Blackheath is worth a look too, but again, not cheap. That said, Chislehurst isn't renowned for being a bargain bucket option.
Out of interest, which public course are you currently playing at?

If you're on the Kent Bromley edge, there's West Kent and High Elms.
HoweverI would go Pedham Place (j3 M25).
Its 15 mins from Bromley Hospital and the course condition was amazing when I played it on the 30th December.

The holy ground that is Chelsfield Lakes!

Would you recommend any of those?

Pedham i think isnt open to members... sadly
It's a members club that allows visitors.
I played it as a visitor, and am playing with my normal swindle group in April.
Im a member further down the A2.

Edit. Apologies, I've just seen the website.

How about Lullingstone?
For me, the weather patterns we have had the last few years has meant many courses that coped well with heavy rain aren't doing as well. Even some of the South East coastal links favourites have suffered.
Plus also there has been a few course closures which also makes everyone one else a little bit busier.
I would choose a course easy for you to get to

Great memories of playing there when I first took up golf over thirty years ago.

You do have quite a choice around the Kent/Bromley line. For me it depends on which bit and thus which direction I would want to travel to minimise the traffic you will have to deal with.
2 other suggestions, Langley Park ans Shortlands, where you could get full membership for less than £600.

Langley is suffering big time at present apparently, just not draining.
