Mine was polo shirt, shorts and golf shoes (plus socks, shreddies and a hat). The only brand I can remember is that the shreddies came from Woolworth in South Africa.

Should of worn shorts, absolute belter of a day ☀️☀️☀️
Yes but then the whole socks issue comes up, what colour? how long?
Do the club wish you to cover up your ankles?
Maybe even your shins might offend their sensibilities?
Do they wish your socks to match your shoes or your outfit or do they demand the right to choose the colour of your hosiery?
Decisions, decisions, questions, questions.

In 2024 why the knee length white socks?

I’m playing at a course this coming week and weather looking good, so checked their website as I’d like to wear shorts.

Does anyone even own knee length white socks?

I’ll wear trousers.

The only knee length white socks I have are the very lovely hand-knitted ones I wear with my kilt…and it would be odd wearing them without my tartan flashes and sgian dubh tucked in. Suspect they’d prompt comment.

You could use the sgian dubh as a pitch mark repairer

Or to scare people into tucking their shirts in! :)

As for knee length "white socks" that only in football kit! Never heard of it from a golf course

Only ever seen the requirement for knee length socks at one place I visited. To be honest, it looked like something off “It ain’t half hot mum.” It was difficult not to laugh.

Where is that?

The Mere.

I apologise - apparently any colour knee length. White above the shoe line.

The following dress code applies to golfers on the course;

  • Men
  • Commercially-available golf-wear is acceptable.
  • Shirts must be tucked-in.
  • Shorts, if worn, must be tailored and above the knee. They should be accompanied by knee-length socks of any colour, or white socks which must be visible above the shoe line. Trainer liners are not permitted.
  • Golf shoes must be worn (soft-spikes or rubber-soled only)

I've played before in ankle socks, so that'll do I expect.

The Grove the day after, but looking wet.

The Mere? As in the pay & play Manchester way?

I played their last year. Lovely course incidentally. Ankle socks are fine, that's what I wore. Same as most other people on the course that day, it was hot.

It looks like they don't like liner socks or whatever they are called. Don't know why, but they aren't alone in that for some reason

I never saw it as a knee length sock place, very peculiar.

Ah devil in the detail

That seems your standard dress code rule for socks

It’s socks up to the knee or your normal trainer sock
