What would you wear if there was NO dress code at your club?

The same way as I currently dress. Only potential change would be cargo shorts in the summer.
I can never understand why smart cargo shorts are not allowed. I would like to be able to wear my polo shirt not tucked in on very hot days. Other than that, not much change.

I'm very conventional. Never wear jeans on or off the course, don't own a pair. Never wear shorts on the Golf course in this country, it's rarely warm enough & just doesn't feel or look right to me. Needless to say, I'm getting on a bit. The only rule change that affected me was when they allowed trainers, I had a pair of shoes which looked a bit like trainers. They were the subject of a lot of debate when I wore them before the rule change.

Before the "jeans allowed in clubhouse" rule came in a mate of mine had his son & daughter in law visiting. She came downstairs on the Sunday, ready to go to the club for lunch, dressed in denim shoes, jeans, denim shirt, denim jacket & denim cap. She just managed to slip in unnoticed.

In the summer it would be nice to not worry about changing in to golf gear if was nipping out for a few holes.

I am trying to think what items in my wardrobe would be suitable to golf, that I would like to wear, but contravene current dress code.
I've got a couple of treking trousers that are ideal for golf, but when I went back to shop to buy another pair, they have "improved" them by adding a non-comforming cargo pocket. Boo!
Bought them anyway!

As I've always said the vast majority of golfers, especially members of clubs, would wear much the same as they do now, even me who is a great opponent of the way dress codes are communicated and occasionally pedantically enforced. Not sure the opponents of dress codes actually want to wear jeans on the course, especially on the courses everyone on here plays on. That's just scaremongering dreamed up by the dress code brigade. As others, the furthest I would stray is that I'd possibly untuck my shirt more.

And there never had been a dress code, so no "old" members tutting at what you wear?

To be boring, I would wear pretty much the same as I do now (which conforms to most dress codes)
I would never want to play golf in jeans they are poorly suited for the job.

And I wouldn't want to wear them in the clubhouse either as my bum looks like a couple of puppies fighting under a blanket if I wear jeans!

What would you wear?

Great start to the day for me NM,your last pargraph had me spilling my coffee.
My wife still suffers from her Dads remark when she first wore trousers,he was a dour Scot and said to Margaret " the end does not justify the jeans".Not too cruel but he followed it up later with the aside that from the rear it was like 2 ferrets fighting in a sack!
I like to think that I am kinder when on occasion I am asked "how do I look in this?"

To play golf, more or less the same as what I wear now (i.e. comfortable golf gear). Maybe I would go out for a few holes on an evening in jeans/t-shirt if it wasn't too warm. In the bar, I live in jeans/T-shirt when not at work so I'd be mostly dressed casual like that when just popping in for a pint etc. In fact just like I do now as we ditched the more formal clubhouse dress code years ago. Presentation night's etc I'd normally be in pants/shirt unless I'd won something when jacket/tie required....no problem with that it's good (IMHO) to have more formal occasions where everyone makes the effort.

Never quite understand why you can't wear a smart pair of denim jeans (which I live in off the course), whereas very similar Chinos seem to be perfectly acceptably, even if pretty scruffy!

Exactly the same as I do now. New modern materials make the new generation so fit for purpose it's stupid.

Feel sorry for the old goats who has nothing but chino's in the summer and cords in the winter!

I pretty much live in shorts so would carry on wearing those. Some are cargo some not. I don't generally wear t shirts but have loads of polos so again one of those. As for the clubhouse, again what I wear now, shorts polo and flip flops. Zip hoody if it gets chilly. During the 6 nations I'll be in my England top after the round 😃

I don't like wearing waterproof trousers and I'm very reluctant to put them on even if it raining quite heavily - so I'd not wear jeans. Polos and t-shirts. And probably less likely to tuck in. But wouldn't wear joggers or the like as don't wear them anyway, but would wear shorts of a 'cargo short' type.

On the course I wouldn't actually change anything. However, in the club house I'd like to change the rules on jeans and trainers.
