If that was aimed at me, why?
Do people not have access to the weather forecast that says hard frost.
Cover your windows/windscreen with a blanket the night before.
Remove in the morning...no frost.
It's illegal in some countries to run your car to defrost it.
If it was aimed at you I’d have quoted what you said

Illegal in East Lothian to sit stationary with engine running.

I was waiting to pick up my daughter at her house the other week, she's always late so obviously I'm there parked up with the engine running to keep warm. Her nosey neighbour walks past and knocks on the passenger side window, I wind it down and he proceeds to tell me it's illegal to have the engine running while parked and I need to turn the car off. Maybe I shouldn't have but I told him to pi$$ off and call the police if it bothered him that much then wound the window back up 🤣

As you were in the car it's allowed.

''A common method of de-icing your car is leaving the engine running whilst you get ready for work – but this is environmentally unfriendly and is also illegal. Rule 123 of The Highway Code clearly states ‘You MUST NOT leave a parked vehicle unattended with the engine running or leave a vehicle engine running’, so to be safe and avoid an £1000 fine, it’s best to carry out different ways of de-icing your car. ''

Yeah but you never forget. 🤷‍♂️

I don’t know a single Electrician that has had a smart meter installed. And I know a lot.
I run a EV
You only get cheap electricity if you have one.

Also I have never really understood what people have against them.
They read how much gas/electric you have used same as as an ordinary meter.
Worried if you are charged the wrong amount - take regular readings just as you do with the old type of meter.

So if you're at the car but on the outside scraping the windows while the engine is running, is it unattended?
If you're not allowed to defrost the car, and you're also not allowed to drive it with the windows obscured by ice, then you're basically stuffed.
I suppose they could argue that you can use de-icer, but that's not exactly enviromentally friendly either.

Why don't all cars have heated windscreens like Ford? Once had a Fiesta with one, and it was a marvelous feature. The patent must surely have expired by now.

We have departure times set so its always toasty and defrosted when my good lady leaves for work in the morning. Kicks off 30 mins before and hardly uses any battery power or will use mains if plugged in
I don’t have an electric car,my sister does & that’s one feature that I’d love.
Hate having to defrost the car at 6:30am

Good friend of mine does plumbing and electrical work. He doesn't even like TRVs on rads as they "constantly break" it does seem a lot want to be able to know how things work and a smart meter takes a bit of knowledge away from them that doesn't sit right as it's trusting someone else.

The smart meter thing the standard reply is energy suppliers cutting you off remotely. Then some banned bits I won't mention.

I also know a fair few sparks with smart meters. All depends who you speak with. Soon as someone says something that sounds very tin foil hat I try and avoid the subject.

Correct it's expired. However it's an optional extra on cars now (if offered) and people don't choose it so second hand market don't get them.

Also increases windscreen repair cost, dunno if you noticed the tiny pattern on screen? If it breaks it costs a fortune for a new one

Can they cut you off remotely? I like smart meter , means I get cheap smart charging and also the octopus free energy and saving sessions

Pretty much every car insurance policy these days has windscreen cover, so the extra cost for a heated one is not relevant (except to the insurance company).

Last time we claimed for a windscreen (which as it happens was for a heated screen in my wife's Focus), it didn't affect the NCB at all. Although I will acknowledge that was about 15 years ago, so things may have changed.

Unfortunately times have changed dramatically

"Changes to windscreen cover in policies including removal from comprehensive products need to be clearly communicated to customers, warns Defaqto. As windscreens become more hi-tech and costly to replace it’s an area which has seen a lot of change for consumers."

Some "fully comp" aren't even including windscreen cover now (causing complaints) rightly so

I haven't seen one with a "zero excess" for a long time , it became too costly when Gavin for autoglass told everyone he could repair it for free

Best to use full fact as they give the full story rather than the cherry picked daily mail headline lol 🤣
