When I bought my first house in 1990 I visited a spice store in the city centre nearby and bought myself a large packet of chilli powder. I filled a large old Nescafé jar and gave the rest away. It’s hot stuff.

I reckon I’ve cooked a chilli at least once a week in the 35 years since and I’ve still got 1/2 the jar left. Reckon it’ll outlast me.

And if you listen to the foodie experts on the cookery progs theyll tell you shelf life of dried spices/herbs is a few months.
Next time I hear that I'll shout "Billyboots!"
at the screen.

Travelling back home between Christmas and New Year I was using the loos at Burton in Kendal services. The toilet paper dispenser was located in such a position that every time I tried to tear off some paper, the flushing sensor automatically activated the flush on the toilet!

Nothing wrong with what you are saying here, but I was referring to world population not UK population.
D-S made a valid point about world population increasing by 80 million a year.
But that figure is set to decrease as we are beyond the inflexion point on the way to 2100 when world population growth will "flatten out" at a new equilibrium or very low growth.

First day back in the office of the new year. First off, it takes me about 15 minutes to thaw out my car from the block of ice it was encased in. When I get to the station I discover there is no Metropolitan Line beyond Harrow. Just when I'm about to turn back, they send one train that is going as far as Wembley, so I get on it. From Wembley I have to get Jubilee Line to Baker Street. From there I jump on the Circle towards Barbican - only they announce that Barbican is in fact closed so I have to walk 10 minutes in from Farringdon instead. Are half of TFL still off for Christmas?? Happy bloody New Year.

Just for information the long out of date Papardelle looked fine (it was sealed in a box) and smelt ok but I boiled some and the texture wasn’t correct.

Driving home yesterday from West Cumbria, the amount of roads not gritted was shocking, whole sections of the A595 the A591 and even the A66 were like an ice rink. Fortunately people were savvy and speed was down to about 25mph. But still my backside was twitching

I'm only in 3 days a week but it does make me long for the Covid days of working at home every day.
