I love this place sometimes...Evri awful service quickly turns to how to keep block paving weed-free :)

Edit - like conversations in my head that end up in a weird place where I have to backtrack as I wonder "how the hell did I start thinking of that"...
Yeah sorry it’s my school boy diversionary tactics to cover not doing homework.. or just talk about something more interesting 🤣 .. my wife asked how I manage to draw the connections and move on so fast.

How do you manage not to have all manner of weeds or plants growing through the block paving??
My wife makes me scrape it out but I have said no because the knees are on a limited life span. (Done it 8 times in 10 yrs .. with no help)
I did use bbq gel in small sections to burn it out, which I thought was ingenious but my son told my wife and I got the “ what do you think the neighbours think” speech … I did say that the ex RHS judge was impressed with my solution as it didn’t involve a weed burner, which he suggested.
The answer: my wife.
She thinks nothing of sitting hours on a foam pad - driveway and large patio - scraping the gaps She finds it therapeutic. Then I follow up with an 8L manual spray pump of 6/2 water/thick bleach, followed by wife with stiff sweeping brush going like a curling gold medallist!
Simples!

I jet wash ours, but they soon return. I am thinking of trying out resin based mortar in the gap and seeing if that keeps them away.

There is a low frequency irregular buzz coming from my office desk or the cabinet next to it. Once every 30 or 40 seconds. Difficult to discern exactly where it is coming from as the washing machine is on in the background.

Slowly dismantling bits of desk and stacks of equipment to try to identify the source in between work meetings.

Been going on for an hour now.

Getting annoyed.

That's why it's not recommended. There's a special purpose sand to be brushed in that inhibits weed growth.
Never tried it though.
We got ours jet washed last year by a proper person, it's a horrible job and I persuaded my wife it was money well spent (it was 😊 ). He washed it and brushed new sand in. They use Kiln dried sand for this.

We get grass coming through still but much less and easy to remove. I don't know if it grows from below or from grass cuttings that take hold. Either way, I think it is just one of those things that needs doing every couple of years.

The previous owner put down block paving. Having seen every option available around the estate when I am walking our dog, I would go for a resin drive if we were to change it. Nothing comes through them, they wear well, hold their colour well. I've been impressed by what I've seen. Living on an older estate you get to see every bit of home improvement, what works, what doesn't work etc. Very useful.

I used to jet wash then brush in sand and I have tried to change the ph of the sand by adding in salt .. none of that really works for long.
I look at the resin drives, I look at the drive seals etc but I think the concrete print stuff is a good solution as well. I drive past my parents old house that had it nearly 40years ago it’s still looking fine.

I would allow police discretion, so in some circumstances, they could issue a warning if the offender wasn't causing a danger to themself or anyone else. After all, that's the whole point of the law, to make the roads safer.
I don't mean to be pedantic, but I think you mean the police to be given this means of discretion somehow, rather than you allowing it. I understand that point.

I believe this would have to be written into the law for clarity.
Clarity for the police and clarity for the public.

Sometimes you may handle your phone in your car and sometimes you may not.
Then a clear list of circumstances when it is permitted and a clear list of when it is not permitted.
But then "discretion" will always be arguable whether it was used correctly or not.

The law is very clear at the moment. I see no need to change it.
Effective enforcement of the current law would make the roads safer, in my view.

It's a job I've always hated. In the past I've done it during the summer; it's been messy and taken hours.
This year, I did it in November after a couple of wet weeks. It took about an hour to do 3 car parking spaces worth of block paved driveway and a 40' x 10' patio and was a piece of p.

Guess depends on what sort of discretion

Would need to have some level of reasons for why a person needed to handle their phone whilst in the car

Surely it is for emergency purposes only and that’s already there as a acceptable reason

Why else does someone need to use their phone whilst driving in the car that can’t wait until they park up

The diluted bleach does a good job of bringing the colour back (thick bleach about £1L).
Don't do what I did though. I did a trial patch about a metre square but, without thinking,
I stupidly did it in the middle of the patio to avoid shifting stuff.
It stood out like a sore thumb leaving me committed to doing the whole (large) patio!

Id love a resin drive!

So when the traffic police clock you on their radar doing 80mph on a motorway at 3.00am on a Sunday in August, they might give you a break...that was the discretion I meant.

Poor Gregg, his woes multiply.
Piers Morgan has now branded him a "sexist p*g".
To avoid confusion, that's Piers Morgan the "long standing friend" of Donald Trump.
That”s a shame as I normally enjoy disliking Piers Morgan and disagreeing with his views, feels a bit dirty to share anything with him.
