Random Irritations

Of course.
I'd be miffed but would pay up £80 and get 3 points.
Better than getting £200 and 6 points for phoning home in a traffic jam doing 0 mph
If you’re lucky and offered a Speed awareness course it’s between £80 & £100, so it might be just £80.00, I thought the fines system had changed and was between 25-50% of your weekly income.

Fines have changed but only when you are "really" speeding

10% plus 2 is still the guidance for being "let off" but they don't have to stick to it. So 79 on a motorway you could get away with. Still might not

Speed awareness is available up to 86 mph on motorways

"The speed limits for a driver to be eligible for a speed awareness course are:
20 mph limit: Up to 31 mph
30 mph limit: Up to 42 mph
40 mph limit: Up to 53 mph
50 mph limit: Up to 64 mph
60 mph limit: Up a to 75 mph
70 mph limit: Up to 86 mph "

The % of your income comes in for serious speed. Yes they can do it for a fixed notice if you are a repeat offender but first time up to say 42 in a 30 you will most likely get £100 fine

But after that is when the fines start becoming % of your weekly wage

A friend of mine was an inspector in the Met and he said 70-80, not a problem. 80-90 depends on the mood of the police. Over 90, you're definitely getting done

😂😂 Nice try Bob, big difference between a Traffic Officer pulling you over and what action he decides, to, someone appearing in court.😂😂
I was talking about a traffic officer having discretion at the roadside.
Do I stop him for doing 80 in a 70 at 3am.....nah
Do I do him for using his phone to call home in a traffic jam....nah

You may of been, but you quoted me when I was talking about what happens when you get to court.

So, absolutely not relevant to your reply.

Because at 3am on a Sunday in August, the roads would be clear of ice, snow, and other road users would probably be dry and see post no. 52286
Oooh, the whataboutery game, or their could be an HGV having a blow out or the Driver falling asleep at the wheel and involving you in an accident, despite being the only 2 cars on the road at that time.

So if you’d of doing 70, you wouldn’t be near the HGV at the wrong time.😬

When I did my speed awareness course one thing that stood out for me and since I've had my current car I've used the adaptive cruise control to slow down

Anyways what stood out was if you are driving 100 mph and brake the point you would have stopped at 70mph you will be doing 70mph ... Sod that

In this day and age what age would people be comfortable letting their kids walk to school alone?

I know back in the day everyone walked across fields of landmines with no coats in the pitch black 5 miles just to get to school but in modern day what would people say?

No. But, if you're saying I'm safer doing 70 rather than 80, I should be super safe doing 0 mph.

I've said my piece...I don't agree with the law but I will obey it.
I'm out

Yes you are safer at 70 than you are at 80

And yes safer at 0 - won’t go far though

But still at 0 in traffic you are expected to concentrate

Police officers have always had discretion with this sort of circumstance.

When I worked the motorway, it was in the days prior to static cameras, and as such speeding on them was common. My crewmate and me applied a rule of thumb which meant we rarely stopped a driver for speeding in isolation unless they were doing 85mph plus. If the motorway was busy, the driver was tailgating or in other ways driving dangerously then that would probably change, but if the road was quiet and the driving was otherwise unremarkable then we often wouldn’t bother.

Two reasons for that. Speed, on its own, is not necessarily dangerous. And second, in those days we would never have had the opportunity to do anything else other than deal with speeders because it was much more common then than now. Static cameras have largely nipped it in the bud.

There is a low frequency irregular buzz coming from my office desk or the cabinet next to it. Once every 30 or 40 seconds. Difficult to discern exactly where it is coming from as the washing machine is on in the background.

Slowly dismantling bits of desk and stacks of equipment to try to identify the source in between work meetings.

Been going on for an hour now.

Getting annoyed.
Being a low frequency momentary buzz this was extraordinarily difficult to pin down as low frequency sounds are difficult to determine their origin direction.

The issue was eventually solved when my daughter woke up and picked her phone up from off her bedroom floor (directly above my office) and started answering the various notifications that were causing the phone to buzz.

I think it depends on each child, and what the walk involves. We are already doing baby steps with my Daughter, (year 5), on the 4min walk to school, so far she's been allowed to walk the last 200m with a friend, a big part of this is because there are so many other parents we know doing the walk, and we can see her all the way to the gate! I'd like to be in a position to let her walk with a friend as she finishes year 6, ready for walking on her own to secondary school - they have to cross one side road and then the main road has a crossing.

We get grass coming through still but much less and easy to remove. I don't know if it grows from below or from grass cuttings that take hold. Either way, I think it is just one of those things that needs doing every couple of years.
In all probability it will be grass seeds blown in by the wind or dropped by birds, grass is a notorious weed ;)
