Random Irritations

We've stopped accepting payment this way. We didn't get burned this badly but the amounts were greater than acceptable so we just say no now. Customers will have an alternative, it isn't PayPal or nothing.

Have PayPal gone full greed mode (like eBay did) where the fee they charge outweighed the benefit for using them?

Maybe they will have to end up like eBay where the fee has gone to draw customers back in

To be honest, I'm not sure what the numbers are but I remember balking at a payment coming in that was short, by the fees. Why should we receive less because of how the customer wants to pay. As I said, there are a range of ways to pay that don't impact the payment amount, we don't have to accept it. Lesson learned...........

On your last point, hopefully so.

I stopped taking Paypal (business account) payments, especially card as this is the real killer. Averaging 2.5% plus £0.30 per transaction.
Payments paid from the customer's bank source or paypal balance seemed to be a bit more reasonable, if you can call it that.

Personal Paypal account wise I don't think it's quite as bad as I don't think the seller gets stung by the payment method and it's flat fees for goods and services (I think, I know I sell a lot of records on Discogs and it's Paypal only and I don't see any difference in the fees charged regardless of how they paid via Paypal).

So short version, if you are a personal account user, probably ok and you won't see the fees as bad, business user... not so much.

What genre of records do you sell? I’m always on the lookout for older classics for jukebox

was not aware of the size of the slice they take.. but not surprised.

What surprises me is that the number of times i have called an establishment and offer to pay them direct rather than PayPal, Klara etc if they can give me a cheaper price. But they refuse.
I bought some 2k worth of tiles during our building work. They would take Klara. I was sure Klara would take a cut. I said, can you meet me mid way i.e you make money and I save money... but they would not. At the end I just went Klara and paid in installments

That suggests to me that they get a kick back on those payments.

My preferred option for payment is electronic transfer, but this time the the staff of this particular customer wanted to pay by card, and the only option is to activate the pay option as it’s either take the fee hit and get most of the invoice or wait indefinitely.

Best thing I did was get a SumUp card reader. ok, it's 1.69% trans fee but still way less than Paypal. I found most customers wanted to pay by card rather than bank transfer and so being able to take payment over the phone or in person when they were collecting or I was delivering. I just built the fees in to my pricing structure (especially at the higher end of the scale like £8000 dining tables) but made it clear to the customer.

Golfing yobbos.
Saw a Trump Turnberry paper coffee cup discarded on the road verge just outside our village.

Shame on them, we get the odd Costa cup via the delivery drivers and the cyclists seem to get the blame for the rare lucozade bottles but Golfers.... come on.(n)

First ever issue with evri this week.

They collected a wedge I was selling last Thursday. Saturday it said "returning to sender" nothing has been returned to me. No update on tracking.

They claim that it's just the wording that it's still on the way to the buyer

Yet nothing has been updated on their website since Saturday

I've insured it for the full amount he paid for it however I don't feel like I'll get the money back anytime soon

My mates son is quite a famous DJ (I gather 😳), I think he specialises in early 90s throwback techno sort of stuff, sounds like it to me anyway 🤣
What’s his name? There seems to be a revival of sorts going on but some of it feels “forced for views” if you know what I mean.

I sold a load of vinyl to a young lad in the states that’s doing quite well in bringing the old hardcore back over the pond.

Ben Hemsley, not heard his stuff but my younger friends say it sounds like early 90s dance music.

If it’s the guy I’m thinking of he does old style tech-house and a bit of techno.

I use the term techno loosely to describe my stuff as it’s easier for the… shall we say, older gents, to understand 😂.

Gabber and just the term Hardcore are the more accurate terms.
