A few reasons.
I think it encourages you to mentally disengage from the driving and become a bit passive, which isn't great on the motorway. There are hazards other than the car in front.
Regardless of distance setting, it has a tendency to get to that distance from the car in front then brake, which I don't like. I like a smooth, natural, brake-free deceleration to match the speed.
Also, it's a Golf R and it seems cruel to make it feel like it's on an invisible tow-rope behind a line of Kias and Hyundais.
Most of my long journeys are in a BMW 5-Series with standard cruise control. I'm quite happy just setting it to the speed limit and if there's something in front of me I tap it down to match its speed manually until it's out of the way then tap back up. I find it keeps me more engaged with the actual car control and feels safer.

Of times I have seen cars in front turning right and the car has brakes and frightened the bejesus out of me with the car thinking I am going to rear end someone. And there was loadsa space.

How do you manage not to have all manner of weeds or plants growing through the block paving??
My wife makes me scrape it out but I have said no because the knees are on a limited life span. (Done it 8 times in 10 yrs .. with no help)
I did use bbq gel in small sections to burn it out, which I thought was ingenious but my son told my wife and I got the “ what do you think the neighbours think” speech … I did say that the ex RHS judge was impressed with my solution as it didn’t involve a weed burner, which he suggested.

I'm pleased it's not just me. I've tried explaining to my wife that I had not triggered those ads

My view on things comes from my brain.
The chap we saw handling his phone while in his car had decided to flout the law.
Wrong decision.
Punishable.
In my opinion, the law does not need to be improved with regard to phone use and being in charge of a motor vehicle.
But the implementation, enforcement and penalties could be improved.
The penalties should be more severe, in my view. Monetary fines don't do much. Driving bans are better.
I welcome anyone else whose view is different from mine to join the debate. I won't be angry if you do.

I would allow police discretion, so in some circumstances, they could issue a warning if the offender wasn't causing a danger to themself or anyone else. After all, that's the whole point of the law, to make the roads safer.
