It’s like getting done for speeding because you are going 5mph over the limit… sure it’s technically correct (the best kind of correct for pedants 😬) but it leaves a sour taste.
Some people think it’s ok, I think it’s not. Discretion I think is what is missing. A letter of warning would be sufficient.

Guess it depends on what the motive is for the punishment - many were causing a lot of accidents by using their phones whilst driving , so best to cut it right off by bringing in rules to ensure no phones whilst car is in use including stationary in traffic - warning will achieve very little

5mph over what limit ? In a 20 or 30 that's pretty bad.

When I did my speed awareness course the Teacher/Instructor asked if we’d tell what our speeding offence was, one guy claimed he was doing 32 in a 30, this lead to a discussion, people basically saying you couldn’t get done for that, accuracy of equipment etc, etc

The guy showed a copy of his paperwork to prove it and the instructor stated that the Police wouldn’t normally do someone for being that close to the limit unless the vehicle was constantly being flagged at just over the limit and they had decided enough was enough.

Whether that is correct I have no idea.🤷‍♂️ but I can confirm the guys paperwork had him at 32 in a 30 as he was sat next to me and I saw it.

I would certainly have challenged that instructor's accusatory challenge.
Very unprofessional.

I know it varies depending on each force but we were told that it’s more a recommendation

As Phil says it varies from force to force, I got done for speeding on the A66. At the speed awareness course the instructor was asking where everyone got done, when I said Cumbria he said they have a virtual zero tolerance for speeding, something to do with the Counties chief of police’s attitude to drivers. Don’t know if it was true, I got done going 57 in a 50 zone by a camera at 3 in the morning. 😩
