Random Irritations

Blue lights!!!
This morning a biker caught me by surprise. He was about 2 cars ahead of me and I saw a blue light. I thought it was an emergency vehicle somewhere and was looking at my mirrors. Could only see other cars. It was a built up area, so we were just doing 10mph..
Happened a couple more times.

As i moved up, I realised that the cyclist had a flashing Red at the back.. nothing unusual about it. but he also had a small blue light strip which would intermittently flash along with the red. He was some regular middle aged joe going to office rather than a copper. I thought Blue was reserved for emergency and was not just for Christmas... am i wrong?
Don’t be daft man, cyclists don’t need to conform the the laws of the road that the rest of us mere mortals do.

And yes, I am still bitter about the damage done to my car by a cyclist.

Without checking I'm pretty sure it's red only and then some rules about "lumes" or whatever the brightness is. Hence the flashing as solid red cycle lights not usually bright enough to conform.

Cyclist v motorists.
A year or so back I was stopped at a red light - two lanes, left for straight on, right to turn right. I was at the head of the right hand queue when a cyclist came towards me at great speed, through the red.
Just before he drew level with me he lost control and smashed, with a great thud, into a parked car (parked illegally. I jumped out and rushed over. He was semi conscious and tangled in the bike. He tried to get up and I tried to get him to stay still whilst I rang 999. He eventually insisted on getting up and walked off with his bike.
It then dawned on me that many other cars, both directions, both lanes, witnessed the potentially fatal event and simply observed.
One driver blew his horn in annoyance but as I angrily strode towards him he drove off.
So, cyclists v motorists?
The cyclist was a menace and danger to himself and others but, surely, compassion comes first?

Well I guess he wants to do something about the way people drive after a family member was killed by a drunk driver

We all see it - people on phones when driving and police don’t have the resources, who knows maybe his actions may end up saving a life
I hardly think checking your phone while stationary is up there with drink driving. The guy is just a pathetic oaf with a chip on his shoulder trying to get back at the world. I checked some of his responses to comments on that Twitter vid and it only reinforces my view of him.

How many of those that check their phone whilst stationary will also be the ones that check their phones whilst driving and will also be the ones that have killed someone’s whilst checking their phones whilst driving

If a text or a call is that important then just stop the car

“snidey illegitimates”

🤷‍♂️
Reading not your strong suit Phil?

I was just extracting the urine because you spelled the word you was quoting and questioning wrong 😁

Anyway back to your question, There is no legal obligation to contact the police for any crime, although if it’s serious then you probably should as the chances of there being a policeman nearby is negligible. However trivial stuff, and handling your phone in stationary traffic is trivial, it’s probably best if you don’t.

I don’t really understand why he is doing it tbh, if his dad did die by a drunk driver then he should hang about outside golf clubs at about 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays and call the police if he suspects DD.

So is it the offence or the bloke reporting the offence that bothers you?

But by stopping it happening then there is every chance that it will stop the person then progressing to using the phone driving

Maybe the issue should be with the people actually breaking the law as opposed to the one informing the police about it and that’s valid for anything reported

There is always the very simple solution- don’t read or use your phone in traffic stationary or otherwise

The car was stopped! 😂 I can only speak for myself, I'm a very cautious driver and would never text/call while driving, but I wouldn't think twice about quickly tapping something in while stopped at a red light. As soon as the lights change (before I've moved off) the phone goes back on the holder.

The car is still in traffic - you can’t call yourself a very cautious driver and then say you would use your phone at lights - you have very limited concentration on the surroundings as well as it being against law

It’s like getting done for speeding because you are going 5mph over the limit… sure it’s technically correct (the best kind of correct for pedants 😬) but it leaves a sour taste.
Some people think it’s ok, I think it’s not. Discretion I think is what is missing. A letter of warning would be sufficient.
