What I found most revealing in the thread was one of the biggest land owners owns the daily mail . No wonder reporting has been very one sided

If, as the PM says, hardly anyone is impacted, why would so many travel so far to protest?

The "Daily Mail Defence" is a version of, "Some of my best mates are black!"

I heard 2 farmers from Northumberland interviewed who were at the protest. They were tenant farmers, as are many up here as the Duke of Northumberland still owns most of the land in the county. Think about that..........For some it was seen as a gathering.

Somewhere in the middle of all this is the truth 🤷

If hardly anyone is impacted, then presumably the change isn't going to actually generate much extra tax revenue.
In which case, why introduce such a contentious policy (and suffer a lot of political backlash) for such little gain? It makes no sense.

It won't effect ACTUAL working farmers too much
It will effect people like Clarkson, Dyson and such who have bought massive amounts of land to avoid IHT

So it will claw tax in from the RIGHT type of people IE tax evading self entitled millionaires

Oh come on, you can get away with plenty of socialist views on this forum, but stray slightly to the “other side” and it’s hard censure.

And members will get away with political posts if they aren’t reported. My question was a genuine one. I spent so long yesterday wading through the pile of spam that I didn’t browse the boards. If there were any political posts, nobody reported them.

The mods can’t deal with something they don’t know about.

I think it is extremely unlikely that it will achieve that.

Landowners of that type will almost certainly have in place IHT planning, probably in the form of trusts.

Working farmers, on the other hand, are less likely to have been able to afford the professional advice necessary and their legacies will be affected.

Here in Leicestershire there are plenty of non tenant farmers who, until now, assumed that on their death the business would pass to their successors unaffected.

One result may be the greater availability of land for the "fund farmers" to buy up and transfer to the trusts .

This is not an expensive process and I’d say they could all afford it.

I’ve just set up a trust fund via Lloyds Bank for my disabled son and I’m no where near any Inheritance Tax Thresholds.

A lot of Banks offer this professional service.

The situation surrounding agricultural property and the separation of different assets such as land and residential buildings can make this somewhat more complex.

However, I agree that many could and should consider similar action.

But this does not help in the short term as successful use of trusts will likely require the settlor to survive for a number of years after establishing the Trust.

Out last night watching a blues guitarist in a small venue and the amount of people on their mobiles was annoying.
I can’t understand why people can’t sit for a couple of hours without keep looking at their phones.
So disrespectful to the artist and it was mostly older people that seem to not be able to function without a phone in their hand. 😡
