Keep £1 and £2 coins in my car either for a parking machine that still takes cash (we have them in Devon) and for roll-ups. Anyone who turns up with a £20 for a £3 roll-up and expects to gets change gets told to clear off and come back with the right money. It's not difficult and if you don't like it, then don't turn up and play.

Rules are rules. If we didn't have rules, where would we be? FRANCE (Al Murray)

This. Often have coins as the ticket machines at the station sometimes throw a hissy fit with cards and won't accept so carry cash for emergencies

I don't expect that at all. I've said I don't play in the roll-ups for this reason, I'm not turning up and nagging them to join the 21st century. 😄
I think the real reason is that you like to whinge and moan about everything. Rollups, dress codes etc etc. Why don't you take up some other past time instead, I'm sure it would be better for your mental health 👍

So you never visit anywhere that is near a bank/post office so you can take a couple of minutes to get some loose change? I think you are just making excuses not to do something because you can't be bothered

Actually that has been the case for me. Live in a rural village, worked in an out of town office. At work during opening hours, golf Saturday morning, no way to get cash.

There will always be exceptions but all of our guys live locally (within 15 miles) of the club and there is a host of facilities from garages to supermarkets and banks.

Says the guy who flounced and deleted his account only to return a year later!

I didn't moan about it anyway, I simply said this is a big reason I never play in a roll-up. I am completely happy with this decision. :)

Several years back we had three piggy banks, one for each grandchild. Every time we had £1 coins we'd pop them in and soon amass a nice pot for their birthdays and Christmas etc.
They've stood empty for years now as we just never use cash.

I understand. Cash is problematic, I never have any except for a few quid in my golf bag, just for these type of situations. I’d always pay cash in the pro shop for drinks etc otherwise they’d get stung for transaction charges on small amounts. I think that you’re missing out by not playing in roll ups. They provide a really good socialising function in any golf club, you might meet some new friends

It's fine, I've met countless members playing in drawn board comps and match play pairs knockouts, and I didn't need cash for those. :)

Who the hell GOES to a BANK? My bank is on my phone. I don't even know where there is a bank.

This is the way forward! Take me to the roll-up where I can just tap my phone to pay the entry.

Keeping a bag of change in your bag (I use my stoneham pouch from last years meet) with about a tenners worth of change is no hassle and makes the organiser of the swindles life much easier. Due to the types of bets, the contents is made up of a mixture of £1, 50p, 20p and 5p coins only. £1 best score, 25p birdies. Simple.

If he lets me join his roll up week in week out as a new member, a bag of change in my bag is the least I can do. All part of integrating into a club. I do this as it also creates a good impression as a new member.

I don’t want to be “ that guy “
