It's just because we already RSVP'ed a while ago and so would constitute a bit of a let down at this stage.

I think the biggest problem is the travel part so that wouldn't particularly solve anything.
The roads to Aberdeen are much better than to up here anyway its dual carriageway pretty much the whole way, unlike where we are. last time i did the drive it was 10 hours to inverness and its almost 3 hours from Perth to here because of the A9.

Companies asking for a review of something that you have ordered within less than 24 hours of the item arriving. Amazon are the worst for this. If you sent me a request a couple of weeks later then I may actually review the item but the chances are I have not even taken it out of the box by the time the request comes in let alone used it

Reviews full stop. Seems like everywhere and everything needs to be reviewed nowadays. Spent last weekend in Edinburgh and booked various attractions and meals, then got bombarded with review requests (and reminders) for the next week!

Coming from Watford he will come past me. We are 4 hours dead on to Aberdeen, I did it a few ago when my son was looking at the university there. The roads were decent but we did the trip in summer. Watford to Northumberland is about 5 hours, 4 hours after that, all in winter.

I'd be baling. It's a big enough trip without a little un. With one, in winter. No thanks.

My cousin's having his wedding in Aberdeen around new year. We were planning to attend but (a) we were going up with my parents who are now no longer going as my mum has had health problems and doesn't feel up to it, and (b) just the logistics of travelling that far with a baby are proving a nightmare to work out. I think it's like a 9 or 10 hour drive if you go straight, but with a baby in a car seat you're meant to have a break every two hours I think (maybe less?) so it will take absolutely forever. Could fly it but just so much stuff to bring - car seat (and having to hire a car), travel cot, high chair for the cottage we stay in, baby toys and supplies. We might have to follow my parents lead and cancel but then I feel bad for my cousin losing a handful of family guests so close to the time. At a loss what to do really. 🙁

I don’t need much of a reason to swerve family weddings. But a 10 hour drive to the north of Scotland in the depths of winter would be more than enough for me to say thanks, but no thanks. It’s the journey from Hell in good weather on your own - in winter with a baby, you’re asking for trouble.

I’m absolutely certain any right minded person will totally understand you politely changing your mind about going. If they’re funny about it, I’m not sure they’re the sort of people worth making such a hideous journey to spend time with.

I really like the guy, have played golf with him a few times this year, I just find it hard to say no to things. And feel bad that my parents are cancelling and then we'd be doing the same as a double whammy. We'll be discussing it tonight when I'm at home but I think we're leaning towards cancelling, yes.

Whilst I agree with most of what you wrote, I do disagree with the bit in bold. They may have already paid for the food and sorted out seating plans, etc, so people cancelling last minute can really make a difference and I would certainly be ‘a bit funny’ about it .

That said, I wouldn’t like the drive, especially with kids

Good point - I’d not thought of it from that perspective.

His fiancée is from Aberdeen I think - or she's certainly Scottish anyway. They live in Bedfordshire!

I'd 100% be canceling with all the information provided

All that cash you save not going give them a nice cheque in a card .. make sure you do it to Mr and Mrs whatever so takes them longer to cash 😂

My cousin got married in Italy... Both had never been to that area! Meant nothing to them ... She's from Essex he is from Somerset.. sacked that off within days of the invite lol 🤣 luckily the wife was due then (nobody knew) so we had a ready made excuse .. didn't envy my parents taking my grandparents all the way there via train because nan refuses to fly but didn't want to miss it ..

It’s tradition for the brides father to pay for the bar, thank goodness I’ve got 2 boys 😂😂

The bar???? I'd 100% take that .. some people say the entire wedding .

Then again I don't know how this out dated tosh is still about ... It's from a bye gone era where the wife stayed at home .. we live in a Modern world with equal pay and 2 income families

Why on earth do people still expect this tosh

Yeah it did seem a pain from day one but didn't want to say no. Unfortunately we didn't put enough thought into the logistics at that time. Some backtracking and apologies to do I think.
