My cousin's having his wedding in Aberdeen around new year. We were planning to attend but (a) we were going up with my parents who are now no longer going as my mum has had health problems and doesn't feel up to it, and (b) just the logistics of travelling that far with a baby are proving a nightmare to work out. I think it's like a 9 or 10 hour drive if you go straight, but with a baby in a car seat you're meant to have a break every two hours I think (maybe less?) so it will take absolutely forever. Could fly it but just so much stuff to bring - car seat (and having to hire a car), travel cot, high chair for the cottage we stay in, baby toys and supplies. We might have to follow my parents lead and cancel but then I feel bad for my cousin losing a handful of family guests so close to the time. At a loss what to do really. 🙁

May be an out of order suggestion but why do you not go on your own. Not ideal but you get to go to the family wedding and no let your cousin down whereas the alternative would be that nobody goes.

It's like a three-day thing where they have a party the day before and the day after (which is new year's eve). Don't really want to be on my own in a cottage/hotel for that long, or travel that distance on my own, or spend new year's eve without my wife and baby to be honest.

Your immediate family comes first. Parenthood involves some sacrifices.
Yeah I think the signs are pointing towards letting them down. They're fault for having it so bloody far away. :LOL:

Don't go. Destination and timing would always risk many not being able to attend. It is what it is. Don't feel bad for them :)

Im in the dont go camp - but could you not fly up for the wedding day and come back the day after? Must you commit to the 3 days entirely?

It's just because we already RSVP'ed a while ago and so would constitute a bit of a let down at this stage.

I think the biggest problem is the travel part so that wouldn't particularly solve anything.

Fair enough but I think you have just cause to not go if your folks aren't. I guess they'd have helped with the baby...

I wouldn’t risk the north of Scotland at that time of year. If it snows you might not get home for days or even weeks if it is a large dumping of white stuff. ⛷️🎿

Yeah I’m in the sack it off camp. I’m used to lots of driving, but that trip would always be a plane trip, which the baby put into the “too difficult to do” category.

Does your cousin live in Aberdeen, or just having the wedding there?

His fiancée is from Aberdeen I think - or she's certainly Scottish anyway. They live in Bedfordshire!

hate to think how much flights up to Scotland would cost around New Year. Suspect that there will be very few bargain offers.

Amazon saying they're unable to cancel an order that I made only 5 minutes before
:mad::mad:

That is why Amazon items, and orders on other websites, switch to dispatched in seconds despite there being no chance of it being packed and sent. Stops is being cancelled and means that you have to go through the hassle of returning an item if you want a refund.
