I only ever play off competition tees, whether white or black. Why practice or play off yellows then it’s almost a different course when you play a comp. I would never play off red tees
You won’t get much support for wanting to play longer courses round here. Most are struggling to tap it round short courses as it is.

There is far too much of an ingrained culture of reds for the ladies, yellows for the men playing social golf and whites only for the comps. There are clearly still some who resent Jinan’s ladies being on the course at all!

Quite why one can’t play whatever constitutes social golf from any other tees than the yellows is a mystery to me.

What if the course doesn’t have yellow tees 🤯

285 junior members ?

How many courses does this club have and how many members overall
They have one full 18 hole course and a nine hole par three course on the same property. Juniors play on the par three course until they "qualify" to play on the regular course. Not sure how many members, but it is a very active club.

To have that level of juniors playing on the main course along with the rest of the members must mean a very full course

We have a limit of 90 now

There is a lot about that piece that I find quite irritating. First point. Why is it just aimed at women who cannot hit the ball far. I know men including myself who cannot hit it far. So by the posters reckoning. Women don’t play anymore coz it is long. What about men who pack up coz it is long.
Another point.

Golfers live on average 5 years longer, and there is mounting evidence to show that golf delivers a myriad of benefits, which we want to be available to all.
Seriously. That needs to be explained as there is “ mounting evidence”. I played yesterday, 18 holes with three good lads. We laughed, exercised both mentally and physically. Listened to one anothers personal problems. Took the Micky when he missed a 2 ft putt ( me🤬) and back slapped birdies. It was a gorgeous autumnal day. I don’t need to read there is “ mounting evidence”. It’s been bloody there since the day the game was invented.

It’s important that we stop confusing distance with ability. Distance is a skill to an extent, but for many people their ability to increase distance is limited by their physicality. No amount of practice is going to make a 70 year-old man hit it as far as he did in his 20s, and often his golfing skill level has not changed. There is no reason we can't offer him a tee box which gives him a challenge similar to the one he had 50 years ago.

What 😳 if I knob it 200 yards that a result for me. I play with lads who can hit it regular, middle of the fairway 250-280. If I quote “to an extent that 280 yd drive that’s a bit skill full” the next 7 iron is hitting my head. Of course it’s a skill and not to an extent. And furthermore, it don’t need quoting that a 70 yr old hits it as far as when they were 20. Or do they. I know of two guys in our fuddle that hit it 230 plus. But for those 70 yr olds they have played 50 years. They have the skills to course manage a round and modern clubs are still helping them with distance wooden headed clubs don’t. They are offered a challenge of another tee box. They can move to yellow or red. And there scores are adjusted for the round. Maybe the poster might want to check something that came out a couple of years ago. It is called WHS. It replaced the old scoring system.👍

Quite frankly I lost the will to read it all.

Any help In getting people into golf is to be applauded. Both men and women. For me it should start at schools where the target group is children of all ages and backgrounds. Although this post is about getting women into golf as only 15% of golfers are women. What is the percentage of golfers that come from non white backgrounds. Now that is a story that I would read to the end.

There isn't a need for most courses to build more tees. Most courses have red/blue tees and a rated course for these anyway. Why the fixation on building more aside it not fitting the narrative
Well I'm glad that is the case round your way I've played around 20 courses this year and only one has had a measured course forward of the traditional red tees that I can recall.
It certainly isn't common round my way(Scotland), at my home course we intermittently get junior tees shove in at random on some holes. Never measured.

We have a short course (blue tees), never see anyone using them unfortunately.

In my opinion each tee should be rated for men and women and then they can choose what set of tee's suit their level of golf.

My Mrs the other week played in a mixed midweek comp. Signed in to play whites with the blokes. She had 4 or so guys question if that was a wise move as it is longer than playing off reds and wouldn't want her to struggle.

My Mrs hits her driver around 210 and her irons are a good distance. She can reach all par 4's at my place in two with two good shots. Even the par 5 she has a chance in getting on in 3 if the shots are good. I find it bizarre that in this day and age we try and target certain tee's for a specific sex.
One of the issues here is the work needed to rate each tee set for men and women vs the number of times they are used. In several cases the longest tees are in excess of 6800 yards which are rarely suitable for women club golfers and hence almost never used. The statistics are now available for the number of handicap rounds played per tee set by sex so the usage is obvious.

On the more general point, many clubs are now moving to non-specific tee sets for men and women which is great. Still a way to go before we are used to different people playing off the tees to match their ability.

A course of 6800 yards (especially parkland) is rarely suitable for any golfer!

I have played Gleneagles pga off whites, about 7000 yards, no fun at all!
It’s ok for two weeks in summer 😂

We have four tees open to anybody.
White
Yellow
Red
Blue.

Only ever seen two girls use the whites, both county players.
Imo it’s an ego thing men not going to shorter tees.
But on mine I can reach all the bunkers off yellows I can’t off whites so play them

Fortrose have moved away from ‘Gender’ tees, we have 5 colours and just choose whichever tees you want to play from.
Honest Brian, that is grade one common sense. The piece I read, I was astonished it got so much ink. If women struggle ( and men do as well). Move forward tees. It is a massive no story. Written by someone lacking common sense.

The point of the article was that there are not many places with tees to move forward to. Whether for women or for men though a man's distance as an average will exceed a woman's at all ages.

One thing I will say. Pride stops a lot of men from playing yellows. Yet at our place. Medals and stableford are off whites. Is it not time that clubs started mixing the completion tee boxes between yellow and White. Why do I say that? According to the poll on the GM forum on how old are you. Over 70% of us golfers are above 50 yr old.
