It’s an interesting stigma that men have about Red tees and that they won’t play off them even if colours are changed.
Our current Red tee course is 5786 yards, this is longer than quite a few yellow tee courses at local clubs. Men are quite happy to play these courses off the yellows or be members of them playing the yellows every day but we don’t consider or term them to be “Ladies” courses or too short or too easy. Odd really.
The stigma that comes with the association of Red tee and Ladies is why we are changing the colors of all of our tees to 'de-genderise' them. Our Reds will be Gold - just another tee and a slightly different challenge to play. I really should have a go playing off our Red/Gold tees as my PH off them is 4. As @2blue suggested that would be a real challenge for me - I have no idea how I'd get on.

I reckon you'd shoot a similar number of points to what you score off your regular tees

From what I have heard the stigma to some extent still remains even after colour change, as the members just refer to them as the 'old Reds' or the 'old Ladies' tees'.

Hopefully this is just a mindset of the more intransigent and will change over time.

As mentioned on this thread we are moving from colours to numbers to further disassociate tees with genders but undoubtedly there will be those who maintain their views.

Most undersized red tee prepared areas are raised. Gonna say pants on fire to this 🔥
The reason most tees are raised is mainly to level them out and drainage.
Especially on hilly courses the amount of soil needed is quite huge.
You often see a small rise in front and large rise to the back or vice versa.
To build a good tee with proper root zone and nice turf with drainage and sprinklers is not cheap.
It can be done if it’s flat ground but never looks good really just looks like two markers plonked on the fairway.

I've mentioned it before but, from our Red tees, some of the tee shots require me to take a shorter club than I would from the Whites or Yellows as slopes can lead to run out into rough/trees or bunkers are more easily reached. This gives me a similar 2nd shot. So no benefit on around 11 holes and a very slight benefit on 4. 3 holes have the tee in virtually the same place .
And as I get 4 fewer shots off the Reds the Ladies are welcome to them!

I have no idea of your standard of golf and perhaps at your level it is not for you, but for a lot of golfers (the average male handicap being 17) it would make a lot of sense and bring more enjoyment.

Me neither…why I asked…and so I will ask my club the question…and feedback the answer.
I asked...and it's simply length.

Surrey County and England Golf aren't for playing Ladies comps on courses of 6519yds (our length off whites) - I don't know what their cutoff yardage is. In recent years only two cards have been put in by Ladies off the Yellows - and I believe that both were by Lottie Woad. And consequently, and as we have no plans to play any Ladies comps off the White tees, they have not been measured and rated for Ladies.

Interestingly I also asked about our new Blue tees. Wear and tear is not the issue - but what we wish to have is a decent separation in total yardage between Blues and Red tees - and the new Blues will make that difference 400yds. This makes the Blue to Red step consistent with the steps from Reds to Yellows and from Yellows to Whites (both cases about 400yds). This gives us a steady progression in length (and difficulty) from Academy to Blues to Reds and so on that enables juniors and new players to make a steady progression up course difficulty as their game improves - and as we become less proficient and able we have a steady step down so that we can maintain our enjoyment.

Our winter tees are all prepared mats and gender neutral.
All our regular tees are gender neutral , I do have some sympathy with ladies who don't like men playing of their tees in some cases. The forward teeing areas on many courses are quite small and often men take large divots, particularly playing off forward tees when iron use is more common and can be pretty destructive of a small teeing area.

How do you see that as no benefit?

Say I'm hitting driver to a point on the fairway off the white tees, but then can find the same point with a 5 iron off the reds, it's clearly an advantage. I'm going to hit the fairway much more consistently with a 5 iron, and over time score better, even though the second shot is the same.

I get 3 shots off the Reds, 7 off the Yellows and 8 off the Whites.....
Where's the advantage of being in a similar place off the tee with fewer shots?
Because of our slopes FiR is pretty small regardless of which club you use, especially in summer
