Just seen the new Garmin R50 has been released and the Skytrak offering was up dated not too long ago.
It’s hard to justify the cost of these things, I have already a Garmin R10 and it’s reasonable but probably very susceptible to poor set up and a little off on the distance clubs. It doesn’t recognise my driver distance so I have to play with a 5 wood when I do a round.
For me the simulator stuff is fun, when I don’t have time to go to the course or I need to be present at home. But the cost is high and then monthly subs as well on top ..
It would be interesting to know what people consider good value or not .. For me I could not part with that amount of cash unless I had a windfall and even then I would struggle to justify it.

As with all these things, the novelty wears off for most and unless you’re a seriously committed player - the value isn’t there.
I can spend 250 hours in a simulator at a local course for the price of the R50, and that’s a complete indoor set up.

That gives perspective.. I just don’t think there will be take up at that price point.
Also GC 2 and 4 have been out for ages but they have not had price drops of note ..

GC2 is no longer for sale. I'd say they are a great bargain on the used market though and I'm seeing prices approaching 1200 pounds. I'm guessing you meant GC3.

I have a GC2 and the HMT attachment for a pretty affordable GC quad equivalent and no subscription (I do pay for GSPro).

I will however say I don't love it. I enjoy golf because I get outside and enjoy a walk with some conversation. The simulator scratches the itch of trying to do better than the last time.

Just saw a quick review on YT and to put it In perspective GC Quad with the same data and some courses will run up to over £20K, r50 with more courses and the same data is £5K.

While it’s expensive it’s (hopefully) going to have a positive impact on the market where Foresight and Trackman have been able to keep prices sky high.

To be honest I would have said couple years down the line they will be or have this capability for a couple of hundred quid. But given the trackman and GC stuff is still very high in price I don’t know if it will impact the market.
I thought the R10 would be a game changer and maybe it has encouraged some more growth in the market but not enough. I do think we kind of over price technology and software but I might be being a bit harsh.

Personally I think the best value is the original SkyTrak, think you can get it for around £800 now if you look around. If I had the space I'd have bought one months ago when the price came down.

Agree on this for sure. I started with a skytrak. It gave nearly identical ball information to a GC quad I tried and then when I got my GC2. The reason I "upgraded" is the bigger hitting area and then I added club data with the HMT. I guess each budget will have it's own sweet spot.

My experience was quite different. Skytrack numbers didn’t match GC2.

R10 is radar-based which is not the most optimal for indoor use (doesn’t have enough flight to track). All radar LMs struggle indoors.

What was off? My distance was always within 5 yards and spin within a couple hundred rpms.
Enough for ST rep to say “it shouldn’t be that far off” 😂 More importantly it was seemingly random, so I felt that I don’t need another RNG 🙃
