Interested in the non-matchplay version. If is still happening and entry not closed..

Can also offer some help if wanted.

Based in Manchester

The results of the poll are;

Votes 69

Qualifier - 39
Knockout - 30

(Huds1475 has responded on here which would make it 40 votes to 30 for regional, not that it changes a huge amount)

Personally, I think we now sort out the regions and an organiser (I believe Virtuocity has already rallied round a few) and start looking at venues for the regional qualifiers.

If we have 8 regions and 10 people at each qualifier all throwing £10 in the kitty, the winners of each venue could play the final at a course which was £200 for a four ball free of charge with £400 being left in the kitty for prizes (8x10 = 80 players, x £10 = £800). My suggestion would be:

1st nett - £250
2nd nett - £75
1st gross - £75

If we set a time frame of April 31st for the qualifiers to be played by, that gives us enough time to find a venue and drum up enough support, whilst still hopefully being able to play this round at off-season rates.

My suggestion would be to create a new forum subsite (rather than clogging up the Arrange A Game section) were we can have a thread for the 8(ish) regions to discuss their own event - as opposed to trying to figure out all 8 in one thread.

There is, of course, nout to stop people organising a matchplay event too, but it was generally agreed that we'd go with the majority whichever way it went and get things moving from there.

Thoughts?

Sounds like you have it under control, personally disappointed, no point running the 2 side by side and theres enough forum strokeplay events already imho. Good luck with it and hope you get it off the ground

(PS Id love to know of the 40 how many actually play ;) )

I agree. I was looking forward to a match play comp. Get enough chance to play medal and stableford comps at my home club and liked the idea of match play as something different. Also surprised that more than 80 people expressed an interest in the original thread but only 70 voted on the poll.

Why no point running 2 side by side Fundy? Some people would still be up for a straight forward matchplay knockout.

I'm happy with a regional event for me personally trying to arrange x amount of match play rounds is impossible with my shift pattern. A one off region event I can work around. Just hope someone can sort the southwest venue out.

Would be feasible to hold the final as the first group out during the H4H day, that would give 6 months of qualifiers assuming H4H is October? This would leave more cash for the finalists, maybe even have 4 finalists with each getting a dividend of the pot

May well depend on location still though. If H4H is south of London again and one of the finalists is from Scotland or the North region then its one hell of a journey for them, more likely that the final venue needs to be central to make it more acessible for everyone

I disagree, if the final was matchplay, which it should be, your in effect omitting yourself from the H4H day as that is traditionally stableford, you can't or wouldn't want to play 2 different formats in the same round.

I think it also deflects away from the H4H day which should be only about that day, keep it separate and simple, no need for massive over complication!

Whilst I agree with you, the vote thats taken place means the final will be strokeplay as will the regional qualifiers so not sure thats an issue as such. Personally agree the days should be separate though

Wasn't aware of the poll which I've just found so didn't get the opportunity, like many others possibly to vote over such a short period of time that it was put up!

I'd still want the 2 separate though, H4H day is that and should only be about that, nothing else, it takes away the gloss of both individual days/comps otherwise.

Agreed - the days should definitely be separate. One of the best arguments for the regional qualifier / final format is that it could be done in less rounds and finished by July / August time so as not to have any impact whatsoever on the HFH day.

If we're going to have 8 regions, including Scotland, NW/NE as well as SE/SW - it's only fair that the final is held somewhere more central.

would be good if possible to go with JO original dream of a Lytham final, whether they would make a GM final and forum meet financially viable is another question!
