Personally would be much more up for this than a big matchplay. Would struggle to fit in potentially 7 weekend games in an already busy season and definitely couldn't afford it.

2 rounds - 1 regional, 1 final - is much easier to sort out. If people still want to have a matchplay comp as well then fair enough, but it's not feasible for me.

Virtuocity has asked for opinions and that's just mine. The comp should also be a medal round, rather than stableford, again in my opinion.

As I'm feeling particularly miserable and arse-like today I'm gonna throw my psychic hat on now and guess that this isn't going to get off the ground as this thread will become so derailed with silly rules and formats and locations and costs that we'll be into 2014 before it's sorted and then too late.

Just book rounds in the 8 locations, winners goes through to a final at a nice course with everyone else turning up and having a good day out to boot. If you got 10 entries from each location throwing a tenner each in the hat, you'd end up with £800 to put towards the finals day which could pay the winners entry to the final round, plus prizes (and probably plus a sub towards other people playing on the day).

I'm going to pick up the baton on this and get the ball rolling as the early bird catches the worm........

Well done everybody for adding your name and location on the previous thread. This was useful and shows that there is a great deal of interest in an event.

Due to the large response and widespread location of forum members, I feel that it will be too difficult to organise FAIR and INEXPENSIVE matchplay ties to knock out the majority of the entrants before the big final. Going by the responses, in order to whittle it down to 4 players going to a final, those in Scotland might have to only play a couple of ties, whilst those in the London area might have to play a lot more.

The easiest way I see this getting run is by holding a number of regional events e.g.

1. SCOTLAND
2. NORTH EAST
3. NORTH WEST
4. EAST MIDLANDS
5. WEST MIDLANDS
6. SOUTH EAST
7. LONDON
8. SOUTH WEST

Prior to each event, entrants stick £10 into a paypal account. The money will then be split between the 8 regional winners which will help pay for their final fees at a decent course.

On the final day, those who did not win the regional heats can still book a place at the final event and compete for a runner's up trophy. This meets the objective of a fun, lively, busy forum event and would also help us command discounted fees which in turn would mean hosting the event at a better course.

All of the above is relatively easy to sort out. The only issue would be the format of play.

I need to know whether you would be interested in taking part in a regional event and a final (win or lose) if the competition was NOT in matchplay format.

If you are taking it upon yourself to organise it then have the final where you want......Scotland.

If so count me in, by the way I'm the winner of the Highland regional heat (also the only entrant);)

Just for something to do I thought I'd look at how the people interested were distributed.

Whichever way you do it, there will have to be some commitment. I can see pro's and con's for both ideas.

Its a good starting point Gary

It could work doing it something like that. Might need a few boundary shifts and maybe an 8th region to even it up but that's the way to go about it imo.

fairly even-ish spread (apart from 2 missing)

Well spotted.

1 is because I forgot one in Scotland. I'd even made 8 marks on my first map then for some reason counted them wrong when I transferred it to another one.

The other is Kellfire, who I believe was originally in the NE when the thread first cam about, but is now in N.Ireland.

I thought of splitting one of the bigger ones into an 8th region, but unfair for me to choose which one. I'd guess Berkshire to Somerset would be a worse journey than Yorkshire to Lancashire but maybe not.

I'm guessing the Scottish 'region' would have some lengthy journeys as well.

I much prefer the OPs idea.. Regional qualifier then final (medal) Id rather go to a meet with a plenty of others there rather than just 2 guys playing matchplay.
But I can see the whole thing being a nightmare to organise so i'll happily go with the idea of whoever decides to take it on.
Hope it works out..

I think splitting it into 16 smaller regions may also be an option. Scotland will need to be split into at least 4 I would imagine, ive not drove up there that much so no expert though.

I fancied that too but a lot seemed to jump into matchplay. We might end up getting two separate the way its going anyway :D

And to be clear, I would PREFER it to be matchplay format but I think it's unrealistic to expect finalists to be willing to play over a 2 day final. If anyone has any better ideas, or is willing to take charge and organise it, then please jump in!

IIRC you email gm towers at the outset has there been any word back?
they organised the centenary event along similar lines and i dont think there was a full take up at any of the marriott courses qualifiers were held at.
