Let me guess.....you're a higher handicapper?
Alternatively, it has balanced it out a little bit more, and the low handicaps don’t have the advantage they used to haveIt actually suggests it's likely to be discriminating against good golfers which is a pretty unwelcome outcome to my mind.
Good point. Think I'll stop working on my game and just let my handicap go up 5-10 shots so I can win a few medalsAlternatively, it has balanced it out a little bit more, and the low handicaps don’t have the advantage they used to have
Indeed it does, but the flawed analysis has too much margin for error to support such a claim. It actually suggests it's likely to be discriminating against good golfers which is a pretty unwelcome outcome to my mind.
If that makes you enjoy the hobby more, then by all means you crack onGood point. Think I'll stop working on my game and just let my handicap go up 5-10 shots so I can win a few medals
In what sporting world do you want to devise a handicap system that actively discriminates against better sportsmen.Alternatively, it has balanced it out a little bit more, and the low handicaps don’t have the advantage they used to have
It is not suggesting it is balancing it out. The data suggests it is discriminating against good golfers in Stableford competition.Alternatively, it has balanced it out a little bit more, and the low handicaps don’t have the advantage they used to have
As presented, the data does not support such a claim; there are simply too many variables that have not been accounted for, or even acknowledged. It is not suggesting it is balancing it out. The data suggests it is discriminating against good golfers in Stableford competition.
My understanding was that it was intended to give people an even chance not stop good golfers from winning.Isn't that literally the entire point of handicapping?
If the system has been devised correctly it shouldn't discriminate against anyone. All should have an equal chance of winning but that doesn't appear to be the case with WHS.Isn't that literally the entire point of handicapping?
Anecdotes about individual clubs are meaningless, so here's a summary of mine this year...Just checked my club results for this year. Individual competitions only, there have been 3 'Cat1' handicappers that have won, a 6 and two 9's, the rest are all mid to high handicappers. Considering we have a medal/stableford at least once a week this isn't a very high percentage as we have over 50 guys off 5 or lower.
If anecdotes about individual clubs are meaningless why did you post your club results?Anecdotes about individual clubs are meaningless, so here's a summary of mine this year...
39 Stableford comps
HI 0-9: wins = 13 (max score 43)
HI 10-19: wins = 15 (max score 41)
HI 20-29: wins = 6 (max score 42)
HI 30+: wins = 1 (40)
To be ironic. If anecdotes about individual clubs are meaningless why did you post your club results?
I don't know. It's 15 so maybe. My last Stableford victory was midsummer 2022, but I don't rely on golf to pay the mortgage so I try not to worry about it too much.Let me guess.....you're a higher handicapper?
If you play well you could get to +2As a +1 handicap I don't bother entering many club comps simply because I have zero chance of winning. I'd need to shoot a course record just to scrape into the Top 3 in a lot of events. I only bother with knock outs, Club Champs and next year will focus on regional/national events if I can stay injury free.
The new system has been a disaster and devalued a lot of club golf, IMO.
Goes for everyone. If you play well you could get to +2
Many a truth said in jest!Good point. Think I'll stop working on my game and just let my handicap go up 5-10 shots so I can win a few medals
