New women's tees

Well, our club "wasted time and effort" to rate the white tees for women, and I genuinely don't think the ladies will ever play off them. I'm not sure how much time and effort was wasted.

But, it is a fair statement. To all young female golfers out there, who will be able to smack a ball impressively long, there is a good chance some clubs won't waste time and effort on rating specific tees for you, because most other women can't hit it very far.

Meanwhile, I'm grouped with an 80 year old man or 40 handicapper male who smashing their drives 80 yards off the white tees.
Several hours of mostly volunteer time is spent on each tee set for each gender.

Clubs fortunate enough to find themselves producing long hitting women who want to play longer tees can request ratings at such time. Until then, they simply don't need them; and pending ratings, those women can still play those tees, they just won't be able to submit scores from them for handicapping.

Men should also play from tees that are appropriate for their ability/hitting distance.

It's unfortunate/ridiculous that many clubs still run all/most of their comps from the back tees for men, even for seniors.

Hence, going back to the point I was making, I still believe all handicaps, regardless of gender, should be based on a single set of ratings. I've never understood why ladies are measured against one set of ratings, yet we are comfortable a 90 year old man can be given a fair handicap from the ratings also used for 20 year old men that carry a ball 300+ yards.

And, I agree with the other points. Anybody, or group of people, should play off the appropriate tees. I think some of our Senior comps should be off blue tees. There is one hole in particular, where it is too long a carry over course and up the hill off the middle and back tees for very short hitters. But fine off the front tees. I notice some older men go out socially, and on that hole they just go to the top of the hill, and tee off from the fairway. The (old) yellow tees would have been pointless for them on that hole.

Interesting.

I still have always felt that there should be one set of measurements, regardless of gender. Then everyone gets handicap from those.

Otherwise, you get issues like this. Presumably, an excellent amateur female golfer could not play a round for handicap off your silvers. Even if she hits ball further than most men club golfers. Just because the standard female carry distance cannot perhaps clear a penalty area or 2
That happens at ours.
Two county females can’t play comps off the whites.

But they do play socially mad.

We were rating a course locally yesterday. they had requested all tees to be rated for both genders. when we explained the issues with women on longer tee sets and also asked whether any qualifying or competitive golf would be ever played by women off their white tees, they swiftly agreed that it was a waste of time rating them for women so only the reds and yellows were done for women.

We held the English Womens Open a few years ago at my club. They played off the yellow tees. It would be pointless rating our 63 or 65 course (comparable to our old White and Black courses) for women if they even wouldn't be played off for a National Open.

I’ve mentioned before that every course here has every tee box rated for both men and women. It’s likely that some tees have never been played by women but its there if they need/want it
To illustrate there’s a tough par 72 course under women’s rating that goes from CR 72.1 Slope 120 off the reds out to a mental 83.2/148 off the tips, good luck whoever tries it

Mind you as the young lady at my place can’t put cards in off the back tees, some of her handicap diffs are 🙄. I checked this morning (as we are discussing this) and her most recent rounds on her handicap record were played a year ago at Portmarnock off the (Ladies) Red tees. Her diffs for the rounds were -8.8 and -10.3 🤣
