Interesting play from England in the 1st session today. Not sure if they needed to play in such an expansive fashion all the time, but at least it is never boring
If we lose 5-0 in an exciting fashion will it still be worthwhile? Asking for a very confused test cricket fan who applauds the sentiment but wouldn't mind some old school play at times........

Speaking as a part time cricket fan, have we got the players to play old school anymore. In fact, are old school test players even being developed now. I think that there is a lot to be said for letting people play to their natural style which, these days, is more agressive.

Possibly not, although maybe they are there and just not flavour of the month. If you only look for 50 over players, 50 over players is what you get.

Playing a natural style is fine, to be encouraged, but there are times when you need to dig in, not just blast your way out. In golf terms, sometimes par is what is needed for a round, it doesn't always have to be -8.

What a pillock Peiterson is - talking about the "catch" even after it had been shown that the fielder grounded it on landing!

England doing their best to throw this match away. Everyone bar Crawley has got a decent start and apart from Pope who got an absolute worldie of a delivery the others all seem to have thrown it away.

Not enough runs on the board for me on a pitch offering little. Australia haven’t exactly got to bust a gut to get the job done, either.

The expansive new approach is all well and good, but you still need to post a score.

Rain tomorrow morning in Birmingham. Warm, humid and overcast in the afternoon.
England to win by 100 runs.

If these two batsmen are there at stumps, Aussies win imo. If they’re both gone, England win. If one is left, it’s a coin toss.
