Random Irritations

Completely different risks.

Motorways are still the safest roads to travel on despite the speed involved

Through towns you have cyclists and pedestrians who are a risk and we need to make the roads safer for them.

No point encouraging people to use bikes to get about if it's a death trap
You are avoiding answering the question.....wouldn't motorways be safer if everybody drove at a LOT slower speed? The answer that you are avoiding is.....yes. But....like everything else in life, you make a lot of choices on whether it's worth it or not. I've jumped out of a plane a few times....why would that be allowed? I chose to make that decision and live with the risk....like everything else. I'm an EX bicycle rider...not worth the risk for me...too many close calls. How do you solve that? ...I've no idea, but banning cars isn't the answer. Yeah...I know...you didn't mention banning cars....but you are going to extremes that aren't needed.

Switched my mobile on this morning and it's stopped working. No display, can't switch it off etc. Been online, it's still under guarantee and followed the support. I need to ring them. I can't use the phone as it doesnt work  Will have to wait until HID home from work so I can use his.

Phone being picked up for repair NEXT MONDAY:mad: Luckily I kept my old one. Don't have all my apps on it though.

Not avoiding the question at all it's all whataboutary to hide from the point that 20 mph limits save life's on local roads people just don't want to be delayed that extra 5 mins a day because they deem themselves more important than the rest of the world.

The biggest issue with 20mph speed li it's is that virtually nobody sticks to them because they know there's little chance they'll get caught..
And it's actually quite difficult holding 20mph for any length of time.
I can hold between 2o and 31 all day but 20mph is a different ball game because it feels so slow
It's like 50mph through motorway roadworks....so much harder to do.

Luckily my adaptive cruise control starts at 20 so easy to hold

But i still believe 20 just helps people drive at 30 as they feel it's a safe speed. Rather than doing 35 etc

Some of the poison and vtiriol on here. This used to be a wonderful place and a safe place for me to come after the days I have in the difficult the role I have. There are some on here here and some reincarnations that seem to want to pick fault in any comment I post or mock calling it "humour or opinion. I can feel my mental health needle heading firmly into the red and I can't go back to my dark place or do the dark things I did before. I am logging off (and will log out of the work PC tomorrow) for the foreseeable as I can't deal with the opinionated who cannot see a shade of grey let alone an alternative opinion, and those keyboard warriors happy to post responses they wouldn't dare come out with in any clubhouse amongst members or friends.

Thank you to all on here that post their views on life, the word and everything with sanity and clarity and to those I have met in person and had the pleasure of playing with thank you for the laughs and company. .I hope to see some of you in the future. In the meantime, please think before committing to posting. What you think is funny/opinion/ clever in some cases isn't. Be nice to each other

Sounds a wise decision. If it starts to have a negative impact then what is its point...

Take care.

Hey, if you feel the need and think it may help, you're welcome to PM me. (y)

This is why I stayed off posting here for a long time. I've only ever put two forum members on ignore although they are the same person. But there are others who would be close and I don't go near some of the tetchy subjects on here. But it's like being in a golf club - there are members you just ignore and make sure you never ever get stuck in a group with. Fortunately they are in the small minority. There are some really good people on this forum, just a handful of people who need to seriously give their head a wobble (credit to whoever first came up with that one on here).

Yes motorways would be safer at slower speeds

But the limit is proportional to the risks that could faced on the road you are on

Have any you been on other forums ? This place is very mild, massively moderated and sure there are a few who seems to love spending their day have pointless circular arguments but on the whole it's possibly the most vanilla public forum in the internet.

The problem is HP is some folk don’t do other forums. So they don’t have a comparison. Look on this forum and a lot of us are
“ old farts”. We have got to a stage where we don’t need that crap.
I am with Homer and PS. I have also stepped away in the past and it helps. I have noticed others have stepped away and sometimes never come back, to the detriment of the forum. You mention about the forum being massively moderated, yet Fragger mentioned a few days back about how he gave some forummers some slack yet it never made any difference. I like This forum but at times it is a cess pit, usually when folk have had a few.
I was once in an arguement, not a discussion because he was adamant opinions should only be based on fact. Not life experiences, not the things you have gone through in life. The topics like dementia etc have been a massive help to me and Missis T which have been based on factual “ experiences”.
All the best Homer me man.

Perfectly put. For me, still, the good on here far outweighs the bad. If someone responds to a post of mine rudely/aggressively/negatively I take a minute...and move right on by.

Re the 20mph speed discussion, and comparisons with such as getting on a plane.

When I drive my car there is always a risk that I will be involved in an accident…I choose to accept that risk. When I get on an aircraft there is a risk that the aircraft will be in an accident…I choose to accept that risk. The massive difference between the two is that in the former I am a contributory factor in the risk event; in the latter I am not.

Getting on an aircraft there is nothing I can do to reduce the likelihood of the risk event happening…as long as I follow the rules set out by the airline and cabin crew. And even if I don’t follow the rules the risk prob does not increase significantly and there is much other passengers and cabin crew can do to mitigate my impact. It is very, very unlikely that my breaking the rules will result in harm to others.

That is not the case when I drive. I don’t think why that is the case really needs spelling out. However…if I break the rules it is more likely that I will be involved in an accident and more likely that someone else will be hurt, injured or killed. And unlike in an aircraft, there are no external players who can stop me breaking the rules and so reduce the impact of my breaking them. Who am I to decide the risk I should expose others to.

Just follow the rules. They are there for a reason. Life should not be all about what suits me.

For years I used to go to our local Morrisons in the morning on the way to golf to get a coffee and it was always the same two ladies in there every sat and Sunday- always ask how you are , and ask about golf , been there about 10 years now

It’s been closed for a refurb over the last 3 weeks

Went there this morning and it seems that it’s now a Morrisons Daily and been franchised out - two ladies gone , the guys in there have so far been over charging , filling the place full of the cheap rubbish and can’t even work the coffee machine 🤬 - looks like it’s Tescos from now
