Squirrels in the loft came back so we've had a pest control guy out here this morning. He goes up the ladder to have a look at the opening and where they've been getting in. Comes back into the lounge holding a crumpled old can of Carlsberg...

Basically the previous owner of our house was a bodge-jobber, we've repeatedly come across things not working properly, or just looking terrible, that he's bodged, so this is just the latest example. Plugged holes under the roof eaves with old cans of Carlsberg. Great work. I guess the funniest thing is that this actually did the job for 8 years or so since we only had the squirrel problems in the last year.
How expensive are pest controllers?? We were charged £240 on Tuesday for him inspecting and putting down traps, now we've just received an email saying it'll be another £290 odd for them to come back, remove the dead squirrels + nest and seal any entry points. Knocking on the door of 600 quid to get a couple of squirrels out, Jesus.

You could always buy the neccessary traps, poison and bait, place them, remove them after a while, dispose of the dead and seal up all the entry points yourself.......
I would say hes good value.

I can't do that or I would've done. The issue is they kept us in the dark about how much the second invoice would be and now I feel our hands are tied because they're essentially half-way through the job. Shady way to do business as it feels like an ambush.

I understand your point, but I imagine they will need to spend more time next visit sealing all the access points up, plus disposal of trade waste isn't cheap and not something they SHOULD be throwing into a household waste bin.

One of my older colleagues turns 66 next month, still fit as a fiddle and a decent engineer. Apparently our manager has told him they want him to retire next month, this is despite him having already agreed he would work past retirement age.
I feel this one is going to get messy 😱
I reach 66 next January so spoke to my boss to give him a heads-up as it will take time to train up a replacement. I have continued to say they need a succession plan but it's never happened. But I also said to him that it I would consider working on a reduced hours week and which he took up straight away.
My understanding it is illegal to discriminate on age so that you can't really get rid of someone because of their age, in the same way you can't for their colour, creed or gender.

So many people who are so easily offended. The amount of people who have tried to file a complaint against JK Rawlings after her posting an opinion that was contrary to what they believe/want since the rule changed on hate crime in Scotland. I don't believe in hate crime, but I do believe in the right for people to have an opinion without being hounded just for it being different to theirs.
To quote “I disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it”.
Some people just want to leap straight to the Death part.

The guy called ACAS earlier and that's what they told him, asking him to retire was age discrimination, I found it a bit funny as in the company handbook there is a section on age discrimination 🤦🤣

You can understand why a can of Carlsberg was used

It’s a good subject, worthy of discussion in a general interest section of any forum…but unfortunately your very first sentence precludes us from discussing it here. 🤷‍♂️

Can you recommend an email provider that doesn't send ads and has more storage space.
Microsoft keep messaging saying my storage is 92% full.
Confused 😕
Log onto your hotmail via a web browser and have a good old clear out, get rid of junk / Spam and empty the deleted items folder

Then have a look at sent items and have a good prune

Then revisit the deleted items folder as all the stuff you delete will go there.

That should give you a chunk of space 👍

Most normal people use Gmail
It’s free and is not linked to a broadband provider, so you can use it anywhere

IE having a BT internet.com email address might be problematic if you move your broadband to EE

Think my generation benefits from growing up with email from a young age. I have had my Hotmail email since I was about 14, first ever email. So didnt get tied into using ISP emails . I've had virgin , bt and now community fibre always making sure to not use their "free" email as it's how they sting you when you leave.

Yeah, I got on the Gmail wagon early so I managed to register my name without any silly numbers after it. Like you said before, I have a second account (that I registered first actually) that I still use for websites and whatnot, so if the spam content ever gets too high I can just shut it down. 😁
