Junior doctors being described as "Doctors in training" by the Health secretary on the BBC this morning:mad::mad:
Except a lot of Junior Doctors prefer that as it more accurately describes them…as they effectively do apprenticeship training from their qualification and choice of career path through to becoming a Consultant, that’s assuming the apprenticeship they seek is available…and they can afford to pay for it.

They don't from the various social media posts I've seen. They are still fully qualified doctors.

It's gaslighting.

They are fully qualified as doctors but referring to them as ‘Junior’ Doctors until they are Consultants demeans them in that almost all are undergoing training towards becoming a consultant. I am only reflecting the thoughts of a number of doctors I have heard expressing a preference for being referred to as a doctor in training (even though traditionally that is used for the first two post grad years) over being called a junior doctor - which suggests a doctor just out of school.

I suggest that the minister has heard such thoughts, and thinks she is onto a good thing (sucking up to them) by referring to the doctors accordingly - well she might.

Many thanks to all for not turning the naming of doctors discussion into political discussion.

It is a bizarre, convoluted pyramid. Junior doctor, house doctor, registrar then senior registrar. Then the doctor becomes a consultant but reverts to Mr/Mrs, and the next step up is senior consultant then it might be professor. I worked with the president of the Royal Society of Gynaecologists for a short while. Some called him prof, some called him Mr, some called him doctor whilst others called him by his first name. No one called him Mr President! :ROFLMAO:

Anyway, it’s yesterday’s news now.

The minister knew exactly what she was doing and was trying to belittle junior doctors and make the public feel they aren’t worth the money they seek by referring to them as doctors in training.

Far be it from me to be in the slightest bit supportive of any government minister on any matter whatsoever, I believe she has been advised that many junior doctors think ‘doctors in training‘ is preferable. I certainly heard that view being expressed when a radio presenter was asking for junior doctors to tell us how they’d prefer to be referred to.

That said I can see very easily that that description may make it seem to some that those on strike and seeking improved remuneration are doctors fresh out of uni…when they are mostly not. For me to say more than that and what I think on the matter and the current health Secretary would take me over the line.

Started listening to a new audio book on Spotify on Tuesday - Berserker by Ade Edmondson. Listened to the first 5 chapters and really enjoyed them.

Went to listen to some more of it yesterday, only to find it's no longer included in my Spotify Premium subscription, and I now need to purchase it separately.

Very frustrating.

I think you’re being a tad naive.

I don't think Brianna Ghey's parents care, she was stabbed 28 times, to me that is evil and I would name them today and throw away the key.
In effect that will be what happens, since if they are released at any point they will be on licence and under close scrutiny and monitoring for rest of their lives.
