called HMRC. 5 times i was cut off after circa 2 minutes. Finally 6th attempt worked. Calling about a rebate for 2020/2021 that i had to write a paper (!!) letter to initiate the claim. Sent in May, my rebate for 2021/2 and 2022/3 was processsed in several weeks after this date (all 3 years due to me paying circa 6k Bupa benfit as p11d on tax form when i had also been paying it monthly through payroll!!!!).I called 20 Sep to find out what was going on. They said that my claim was closed by mistake and that they would get it started again and should be sorted in 6 weeks. 12 weeks later and they still cannot give me any info on the delay other than it was sent to be dealt with. Now awaiting a call in next 2 days from a manager!

HMRC are a disgrace helpline wise. They ask you to call them and then they are too busy to take your call.

They need to get a system of digital assistance so you can upload the information required then get a response

The fact they don't deal with emails in this day and age is remarkably bad

I know I've posted about this irritation before and I'm sure others have too..
Timers on washing machines..
Now, I dont care how long a cycle takes..I just want the timer to be in the same galaxy as the amount of time .
Washing a jumper that can't be tumbled and needs hanging up ASAP to avoid creases...
Walked into the kitchen and saw the machine had 4 minutes left...Great I thought.
Make a cuppa, take some rubbish out to the bin...1 minute left.......
No, no, no, no.....
19..yes 19 minutes later and it finishes....19 bloody minutes.....what the hell is that all about..?
I have completely lost the will to live and were very lucky we don't have buy a new washing machine......

Drive into central London on 8th Dec - accepting that Congestion Charge will be payable. On 10th Dec go online to pay (still ok as within time given to pay it). Pay £15 charge. Week later get a Penalty Charge Notice for £90 saying charge not paid. Checked receipt - yes paid…but the date…damn…paid for the 9th Dec in error. And of course wasn’t in London on 9th.

Contact TFL. Can I have PCN waived - honest mistake. Plus you can see I paid for 9th and also see that I wasn’t in the Congestion Zone on 9th?

Nope. My problem. Read Ts&Cs. No waiving PCN.

OK then…can I have a refund for the 9th as I paid for something I didn’t need or use.

Nope. My problem. Read Ts&Cs. No refund.

It was rather difficult keeping calm….😡

That's ridiculous, I certainly wouldn't have remained calm.

Have you considered there might actually be a problem with it?

very annoying that there was no way to send a mail/ message. There is a Messages section but no way for you to send. Would have taken a few minutes to write and ask what is going on!

Exactly! Something simple like that would really help.

I mean I'm paye and so is the wife. She was on emergency tax and it took forever to get her off it.. simple email would have solved it

I'd hate to be someone who has to rely on them ..

My mates free childcare hours are on hold because her husband is self employed and they need some bits off him by whatever date

She tried to call them to sort it .. of course too busy to even offer her to wait on hold

No because I've seen it work perfectly on another cycle....1 minute is 1 minute...
This particular cycle thinks 1 minute is 19.....
Understand that, but if there is a draining problem thats not allowing the machine to drain as it should that could cause it to have a hissy fit, or perhaps the liquid detergent you may be using has caused the machine to think it needs to run another rinse cycle.
Just offering some helpful advise, many pay to recieve:)

That's an awful system. We have to pay for the Tyne Tunnel up here. You have until after midnight the next day to pay or you can pay in advance. I do that if I'm using it, to make sure I don't forget. Pay the day before, number plate recognition picks up me going through, job done. Crazy that the London charge isn't done the same way.

Fire off an angry complaint, that's rubbish.

That sounds like the out of balance control stopping it from trying to spin. The modern larger capacity machines are much more sensitive to not being able to distribute the load evenly, and when that happens it will keep trying to get an even distribution so the time left almost goes on hold.
The worst things are bath mats, but very small loads/single item washes can also do it very easily.

I hope their NPR system is better than our local Tesco.....went in at 9am, came out 10 minutes later, went back, in ag 5.30, came out 10 minutes later.
2 weeks after I got a penalty notice saying I'd been parked there for 8 1/2 hours when the limit is 3.
It had missed me going out and coming in again...

It's because he accidentally paid for the day before so he never paid for the day he used it

Sounds like a complete jobsworth on the end ..

I would be tweeting them
It's badly done if you have to specify the actual date of use. The tyne tunnel example I gave doesn't need a date specified. I think you can pay 6 months in advance, without an account, and it just takes of the payment each time you pass through.
