Is your club your local club?

Not sure it's a decent course to be fair.....if it was located elsewhere it would have shut by now. Far better offerings just up the road......

What exactly is your problem with me. Every post you put has a negative response. Why would it be shut? Lots of middle of the road members clubs up and down the country. We're nothing more. Why exactly would it have shut if it was anywhere else. Another post just having a cheap dig. Sad boring and negative.

My nearest course is a 5 minute walk away but when I enquired about joining I found them most unwelcoming, so I joined one 3 miles (or 10 minutes drive) away.

Are you a member at Colne GC, Old Colner?

zzzzzz how sad that you have to score cheap points by going back and looking. Shame you haven't something more in your life to keep you amused

"Re: In search of the real 'hidden gems'...
I'd have to also recommend my home course. Despite being less than 7 years old it has a mature feeling of a course that has been there much longer. Again, no pushover to play and some real testing par 3's make par a good score".

Not point scoring at all Homer, but in your quest to comment on almost every thread to bolster your post count it just tickles me how many times you contradict yourself.
I'm sure you'd comment if you noticed somebody else continually doing it mate.

Mine is about 35mins drive, all motorway though. Swindon isn't great for golf courses at all, so need to go 30mins in different directions to reach a top course

My nearest is Downshire a pay and play with two clubs attached (Downshire and Easthampstead). Decent course if very wet and boggy in winter but I'd have to book every time I wanted a game and it is very slow at weekends. I've got Mill Ride about fifteen minutes away, that I keep looking at. I also have the Berkshire the same time away but out of my price range. Similarly with Swinley Forest. Sand Martins the same distance the other way but all in all I'm happy with my club even though it's 20 minutes away and the furthest of the lost. Definitely spoilt for choice around here but home is where the heart lies

Homer , have you played Mill Ride? I really enjoy it, play in there men's open every year and it's always been in great condition.

Played it many times and know a few people that are members. It had a reputation a few years back of being lacking in atmosphere and not many people hanging around after. Think that's changing from what I heard and a lot of money invested as some holes got very wet and boggy in winter. Will be playing it again over Christmas I hope

And that was dated when? Sad that you really feel the need to go back and score cheap points but if it keeps you happy crack on

My club is a 30 min drive away, but since I don't have a car of my own, it takes me at least an hour to get there either by bike, by train (involves a 1 1/2 mile walk from the station) or I have to go to my parent's, charm my mum into lending me her car (she usually does if I ask nicely) and then drive from there. It is quite annoying, actually. But the only golf club that would be in easier reach (about 15 min by bike from where I live and just 5 min from where I work) is very posh and expensive. I am considering trying to get something like a practice membership there, though, so that I can at least use their range during the week.
