I'm about 20 minutes away from my club, which is perfect for a quick round after work. Honestly, I wouldn't go more than 45 minutes, even for an amazing course. The convenience factor is huge for me.
18 miles and usually 30 minutes away. But the route currently has some major ongoing roadworks which is stretching my patience due to the temporary traffic lights are adding anything up to 20 minutes on the journey. I’ve definitely had second thoughts about my choice of club, but as a newbie to the game I’m reluctant to leave the group of people I have got to know and enjoy having rounds with (plus the club has two fairly decent courses!)
It is interesting how far people think it's worth traveling to get to the golf course. The 2 current courses I am at are about a 7 min drive and 25 min drive. The 25 min drive is just getting tooooo irritating and the traffic is slowly getting worse (like all the traffic around Harrogate) so I might drop it. If I didn't have any options closer than 25 min I'd probably consider the 25 min drive to be ok, and obviously plenty on this site don't mind driving 25 min or a lot more to get to the golf course. There are some nice courses inbetween Harrogate and Leeds that I'd really consider moving to....but that would mean 30+ min each way which I have NO urge to do. When I first joined the closer course a few years ago I was hoping that I could just leave my gear in my locker and trolley room and I could walk each way (about 25 min).....but anything damp left in the locker (bag, clothes etc) would have turned pretty stinky very fast.....so that plan was kaput. I had even thought about rejoining my first club, but that is a 20 min drive.....seemed a bit silly to drop the 25 min drive for a 20 min drive unless there was something amazing with it, which for me would be the large practice field.
