On reflection then I think two driving range sessions per week is a bit cost-excessive. I will plan to do the Trackman on Thursdays nights - some weeks I'll probably be a bit later anyway and only have time for 50 rather than 100 balls - and forgo the Tuesday lunchtime session. Instead I might pop down to the club, hit a couple of wedges into the nets (would like to work just on strike of partial-swing pitch shots) and do 15-20 minutes on the putting green. Costs nothing and should still be beneficial. Overall that dials it back to around £45-50 a month. The range I was going to on Tuesdays will be sad to see the back of me though I'm sure.![]()
Just makes practising a lot more enjoyable when you can play on a virtual course instead of having to use my imagination. I could never hit 100 balls at a normal range, I'd be bored rigid. But on Trackman I can easily, and the virtual course means you just rush through them either, I treat every one like an actual shot. Makes it much better for me personally.I actively avoid a TT range, I have no interest in paying £9 for 50 balls when I dont want to use the TT. I'm more than happy with the range thats 5 mins from my house, bog standard bays hitting out into a field. Yes the balls could be better, but they're decent enough and at £3.50 for 50 balls (before you take into account discount for a loyalty card) i think pretty good value.
If I want to get some accurate data for shots I'll book an hour in the studio using GC Quad for £20.
Well I get an hour - the range was 10 mins drive away, 40 mins hitting, grab some food on the way back. Working from home nobody is going to check or know if I was out for an hour or an hour 15 anyway.I’d certainly like lunch breaks that long!!
Seems a sensible ‘plan of practice’ tho

I went to the range on Saturday, it's just too cold at the moment and it's wasn't really productive, just thrashed away to keep warm !I have had a slight change of heart on this. I think 100 balls on a Thursday night is proving to be too many. Hitting that many balls in the cold of night is actually proving detrimental to the state of my hands. I've already had a bleeding knuckle, now I've got cracked skin by my right thumbnail that stings like a bar steward! Think I'll be better off just doing 50 on the Trackman to be honest. I'll work on something at the outdoor range on Tuesday (or just putting at the club if I feel like it), then just play the virtual course on Trackman on Thursday. It still works out £12 a week to do 50 at each, coincidentally.
And how was the golf swing?I went to the range on Saturday, it's just too cold at the moment and it's wasn't really productive, just thrashed away to keep warm !
