Do I join sandmoor or Headingley golf club?

The short game area has practice bunkers and target greens. I would reckon it is c. 120y long - so really for wedge practise. Not sure if it has a putting green
but there is a small putting area on the way to the 1st tee. Located right by the clubhouse.

The practice ground is huge and located away from the main facilities. I think you would probably have to drive to it.

Located behind the 10th tee and the halfway house. Being levelled and re-seeded but not yet finished. Should have plenty of room to hit driver once completed.
Thanks for this super insightful!!

As my short game is the thing I struggle on this area should be of great use to me. So I’m assuming you can chip from for example 100 yards out onto certain greens obviously making sure no players are on it 😂

Also the practice ground sounds good hopefully it win use by spring yime!! Do you know if you get free balls to hit at the practice ground?

I’ve had a look around sandmoor and I know they have a practice chipping green and also a couple of driving range bays however it’s not very flat so past 150 yards you can’t see where your ball is landing!

You've pretty much had the extent of my knowledge. I'm not a member.

My guess is you take your own balls. Give the pro a call.

Don't think the practise ground will be ready for Spring. Again the pro should be able to give you the timescale.

Bottom line is £280 is a steal for a quality course. Get cracking with your application!!

Thought Sandmoor was excellent when I played a few years' ago.

A guy from our place crossed The Pennines 3/4 years ago.

One thing he said which you may need to check.

Sand Moor members cannot play in their own Opens.
HOWEVER on those days they have free use of other Leeds courses. If that is the case having a freebie at Alwoodley, Moortown , Moor Allerton and Headingly would sway it for me

I haven't played Headingley, but I have played Sandmoor, Moortown and Alwoodley, all lovely courses and the one I enjoy the most is Sandmoor as I found it was more varied than the other two.

Didn’t know that, if that’s the case then that is quite a good benefit…

Thanks for the response! I have played sandmoor once and I did love it!! Just never played headingley but looks to be good as well :)

Have you played both courses? What did you prefer about sandmoor!! Love to hear :)
Played them both several times.

Headingley has quite a few bland holes (plus the farm holes out the far end which are meh). Sand Moor has consistently good holes (18 is the weakest for me) plus a vibrant and friendly clubhouse.

I do agree with the 18th being a very bad closing hole.. but never played headingley

Yes the 18th is meh for a finishing hole and the 2nd is poor in comparison to the rest of the course.

I got the impression that the clubhouse at Sandmoor was more relaxed than Headingley so there's pro's and cons to both. As I said earlier it's a great choice to have.
