Did I suggest increasing subs 'just because'? And did I suggest that a not for profit club has an objective to make a profit? I had a few beers last night so both genuine questions.

Absolutely! It has to make "some profit" to be able to reinvest in the club, (e.g. replace machinery, course enhancements) and add to/maintain reserves.

That’s not really a profit, as you are creating a provision for future expected requirements. Let’s call it prudently building a surplus for a rainy day 😊

In other news, water is wet.

Ok, you were suggesting that a premium club could significantly increases its fees (because it can). What would be the objective of that? What would they do with the extra revenue? Because it’s fair to say they are already maintaining a beautifully conditioned course and clubhouse, and they don’t need to spend more money than they do already.
