Surrey Golf Course Membership

Effingham is a nice course and has a range (can't remember if it's grass). From what I've heard, there is a one or two-year waiting list at the moment, but I'm sure with your handicap, you'd find a way to speed it up.

Wrotham heath, Knowle park and the Wildernesse ?
I'd say Knole Park is clearly the best of those 3, but I'm biased having previously been a member! Wrotham Heath a distant third, would rank both London Club courses and Kings Hill above it in the immediate area. Camberley Heath ranked 20th in Surrey is still better than all of them.

Played it a few times and it's OK ish
I really liked the RAC at Epsom. Mind you that was probably because I always played well there. [44 points in a foursomes comp off 2 and 8 handicap once]

Interesting. What top 100 courses in Surrey do you think are over rated?
Worplesdon, Burhill, Camberley, Foxhills, Effingham, Wentworth, Coombe Hill, New Zealand.
They are all good courses and comparable to other good courses around the UK such as Ganton or Western Gailes IMO
BTW I love Sunningdale Old but it is probably not as good a course as Sunningdale New ?
BTW2 St Andrews Old and North Berwick should be nowhere near any 'top course ratings'.

Yes I concur....loved Knowle Park.....also not a bad house, 365 rooms and 52 stairwells from memory.

Yep. A "Calendar" house. Well, sort of. The number of rooms is appro 365, the 52 stairwells have been reduced through alterations over the years. There are also 12 entrances and 7 (main) courtyards.

Burhill, Foxhills, Effingham aren't in the UK or England top 100 so hard to say they are over rated, based on top 100 website.

A few more you mention are outside the UK top 100 but make it into the England top 100: New Zealand (46 England), Coombe Hill (62 England), Camberley (79 England). Can't really say they are over rated compared to Ganton which is ranked 7 in England, 23 in UK, 72 in the world, or Western Gailes (ranked 43 in UK).

Worplesdon and Wentworth make the UK top 100. At 72 in the UK, Worplesdon doesn't feel over rated to me. I've played it a couple of times and it is beautiful, weaving through heather and mature woodland.

Wentworth is ranked 55 in UK. Not that high for a course with huge history and is on the telly every year. Maybe the TV coverage gives it too much kudos and it shouldn't be higher than Gullane or Burnham & Berrow.

By the way, I also preferred Sunningdale New ahead of Old. Even though I drove the 9th green on the Old and made a short putt for eagle. Controversial

Effingham and Foxhills aren’t rated in the same league as the likes of Worplesdon
