I am considering moving to north Surrey area and I would be looking at joining a club. I am wondering if there are any clubs accepting members or have a reasonable wailist in the area.

My strong preference is to join a members club, as opposed to a private club. I actually used to be a member of Foxhills, which is in the area I am looking at. It is a lovely club, but there were way too few comps for members. I think that is like most private clubs.

Any suggestions?

Private and members club are generally accepted to mean the same thing. Clubs owned by an individual or business are normally called proprietary.
Regardiing your question, sorry cant help 🙁

I was Captain at Pyford in 2020 and can recommend the layout and challenge but now that it's part of Get Golfing, it's rammed to the gills every daylight hour. There are still a lot of times and events for members though.
I think you need to be a little more specific in terms of your actual area than "North Surrey". I can speak for most courses in the county from my time there before I escaped/got transported to Devon.

Oops! My club is the same, not enough comps in my opinion.
When I was at Foxhills, we had the monthly medal, midweek medal, and some special annual comps. That was about it, so not too much. I checked with Burhill, and they seem the same.

Thanks for the info. I would be based in Addlestone/Weybridge, so interested what else is in that area. Thanks

Where I used to live :giggle:
Sunbury is pay and play Crown Golf - short, friendly but not much of a challenge.
Abbey Moor - crap 9 holer.
Foxhills as you say is more corporate and no atmosphere.
Hoebridge is a pay and play special where everyone is rammed in
Burhill is expensive and a lot of a-holes there. Two great courses but the price puts a lot of people off.
St.George's Hill - forget it unless you win the lottery.
Silvermere - same as Hoebridge

I'll think of some others later.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering about burhill, but I think that you have written what I was thinking.

Forgot about West Byfleet - joining fee and pretty solid membership - tough to get in with the "in-crowd".
New Zealand takes no local members.

They have a few artisan members which is how I got to play there as I knew a couple of them. All their other members live over 20 miles away. They have no real competitions. But they make a killing on societies getting in there.
That is interesting then - didn't realise that there was a mileage thing

Not any attractive options in that part of leafy Surrey then?
